AGP card recommendation for FCP5 please…
Posted by Bill Thomas on May 14, 2008 at 3:40 pmI installed FCP 5 on a slower Blue G4 and it says it won’t run without an Extreme Graphics video card.
Can anyone recommend a low-end (cheap), AGP card to get? And, do I have to use AGP or can I use PCI?
Thanks in advance…

FCP 5 will not run on your system. It’s not just the graphics card.
If you are looking for cheap, a year old iMac is what you want.

Because it’s too slow? (Dual 500 mhz). I can live with slow – it’s mainly for practice.

May 14, 2008 at 6:03 pmNot sure if the ati 800’s fit in your machine but given the price of them Steve’s recommendation is probably the best way to go. I think the dual 500G4 was fcp 3 vintage. I still have mine and it was running fcp 4 (before HD). It wouldn’t run DSP3 very well at all which is why I jumped to a dual 2GHZ G5. You could always pick up a fcp 4 sw to fool around with.
You can use the pci slot for a graphics card but you may run out of them for other things.

Pretty sure it wouldn’t work. The ATi x800 is an 8X card, the AGP bus on a dual 500 is probably 2x or 4x. I don’t remember the minimum spec on FCP 5.x, but If a dual 500 is compatable at all, it would be so far towards the minimum that it would be painful.
