I guess that’s enough to get into an AG-HPX500 with lens but depending on what kind of sales taxes you will have there may not be anything left over for odds and ends.

or scratch the Thailand training trip and get a second camera and a P2 card reader etc. etc.If you go for the AG-HPX500 you may find yourself wishing for a few ancillerary pieces or wishing you spent more for a lens a year from now but if you go with the HVX200 you can afford to get all the bells and whistles all at once right from the get go.

Panasonic had the ___700__SD cameras out with 2GB P2 cards about a year or 2 prior to the release of the HVX200 HD cameras. P2 has been in the professional arena for a while now with announcements from Panasonic going back to 2003. I’m not sure of the release date of the first something700something P2 ENG cam but it should be safe to say 3 years now. Recent announcements indicate 16GB P2 cards available soon after NAB and the 32GB cards to be available around the end of 2007.

It’s the mpeg-2 formats that are on shakey ground right now IMHO, but if DV is working for you then I agree, why spend more money on this other stuff. The DSR-85 can pass dvcam at 4X speeds but I don’t think there is a capture card that handles it for ingest to a computer other than the deticated Sony ES-7 editing systems which are PC based. Too bad the Kona cards didn’t suport the QSDI 4X speed terminals on these decks. It’s a little late for that now.

Seems to me the VX-1000, sony’s 1st 3 chip consumer camera only had 32k audio, I know people who still use them. Similar quality level issues plague the dv video format.

This is the perfect camera for one of my clients, I’ll be recommending it. Looks like a great pov cam too.

I don’t know your budget but if you look in cow classified I saw a PVM that is 16:9 -20″ SD for “any reasonable offer”. Why not email the poster and talk, it would be good for your needs and would be an awesome viewing area. Also below that is a pvm-14L1 for $300.00. I think you can get those new for about $500.00 at B&H so maybe you can deal on that as well. They look like they are in your area and may be possible to get quickly. Sony crt’s are the best and pvm line is decent with smpte or P22 phousphors. The pvm-“M” series is getting pretty old so you could be getting something that is worn out in that model. You’ll probably pat $40.00 a day for a rental. Walter’s recomendation is the best as it will carry through into the hd future but if you are limited by budget these sd monitors can be usefull for some time yet.

FCP lets you add compression markers where you want to. As long as you aren’t doing multi track dvds you can place I frames within the transitions. Scan the manual for more info on I-frames for more detail.
Better though would be to do some custom encodes within compressor. For a 30 min action movie you should be using short gop’s, you don’t need the compression advantages of long gop structures for a 30 min video. An ibp or ip gop structure would probably be your best option.
They make royalty free music for people like us. If we play by the rules everybody gets paid. I like getting paid. I think we all like getting paid.

A lot of electric motors respond to reostats very well too (like the ones in your 120V dimmers)

Just a refresher…. panasonic AG-DS-850, jvc-BR-S622DXU and 822 and Sony SVO-5800, 5600 VHS/S-VHS all have component out either built in or as an option. These decks are all in the $5000.00 bracket and were the top of the totem for s-vhs technology with dnr, tbc smpte t/c and numurous features found on the betacam decks of the day. If you are stuck with vhs as source you may want to rent one of these decks to get the maximum signal off the tape. Manual video, chroma level/phase, black level and proc amp features can add new life to old video.

Sent mine in last year! (Dec. 20th.) and just got them today, (Jan 24th.)
Mine was the discs from FCP to the studio suite upgrade ($799.00 I think) and it uses the same serial number.
