We go out to a mixer and into an amp where I use Mission 2 way speakers model 701. The sound is so good I often have clients respond to comments I’ve made on set that are now coming over the edit system. They actually think it’s me – here now talking live. I just went to a big retailer that had all their speaker selection hooked up to a switcher and they let me operate the remote where I surfed through the models til I narrowed it down to just 2 types and I went for the Missions which also fit snugley horizontily in racks.
I’d recommend going to a dealer that has this set up to anyone. It’s surprising how different the many brands of speakers sound and it is easy to select the best by scrolling through them.

A lot of cameras record 2 tracks at 4800 or 4 tracks at 3200 so it sounds like they were set for 4 tracks (but maybe only had inputs on 2 tracks). You should not edit with 3200 khz. FCP will convert these on the fly but it will add a load to your system which will rob performance and it sounds like you have a big project for this to build up in. Just export your audio using QT conversion and set for 4800/16 bit. Then re-import.

I had something like 11 dead pixels in my mac 23″ back when they were $2000.00. When I tried to get waranty replacement I was without a monitor for a month while they sent my various used monitors they’ve had returned. The waranty allows them to give you a used replacement so eventually I settled for a replacement with 11 dead blue pixels instead of my original with 11 dead red ones. Dell warranty sends you a replacement and then you send in your defective one so right there there is a much better situation.
I’ve been covering the front bezels of my monitors with black gaffers tape since biege was the only finish available on computer monitors. For the past decade companies like sun, sgi and lacie have all been suppling monitors with light obsorbing DARK finishes for use in proffesional enviroments where color grading and accuracy is paramount because those beige borders are an infulence to the preception of color. The 1st generation of apple display were a great inovation from apple but did they miss the boat with the big pearly frame around them. They at least have smartened up enough to give us the thin frame but why not in black anodized? The dells are way better for this reason also. I’ve just gone to a huge amount of trouble to swap all my racks from beige to black and paint my walls dark blue/grey for this same reason. As an audio professional friend commented to me when I began to defend my choice “well” he said, “I don’t sweeten my audio with the radio on, I use a sound controlled enviroment so it makes perfect sense to color correct in one too”
Apple makes some great products but they are too into the wowie zowie influence factor in selling to consumers. Although they’ve gotten away from the jelly bean look I’ll be buying a couple of dell 23’s” for my next purchase.

I’m reading this differently. According to your 1st post they distincly request music seperate and not on track 1 or 2.
Reading these specs slowly I get:

Looks like they only want sot and vo on tracks 1+2 and they are stereo mix.
sot is stereo
vo is stereo
so start with these 4 tracks and drop sot levels where vo comes in, when levels are constant, mix down to 2 tracks (tracks 1+2) or if you already have them on a1 and a2 then pan 0.[dave] “stereo music three,”

this doesn’t make sense but I just read your second post which makes a lot more sense:
* Only true stereo with left channel on 1 and right channel on 2
* Music and effect stereo left and right on channel 3 & 4.This looks like music and effects can remain stereo but are mixed on
tracks 3+4 the same as vo and sot.Maybe the network mixes down audio on the playback deck -Channels 1+3 and Channels 2+4.

I don’t have any concrete info but seems to me the 1st official Panasonic anouncement said before 2008. Panasonics release dates on these items has been accurate within 2 weeks or so.
The 16Gb cards are just getting out there now to most vendors. The release date and the date that all resellers have ample stock is 2 different things.Hopefully the 64 and 128GB cards won’t be far behind!

Someone posted this link on this forum about 8 months ago but I thought I’d post it again. The article was written when the 8 gig cards were all that was available (32GB cards by end of year!). The article demonstrates a method of planning and shooting on a tight schedule with a large crew with P2 media.
We all can all relate to the home movie watching experiences of the past on vhs as oppossed to the present experience with dvd. Even digital tape is linear when it comes to locating a clip. It’s a rocky road but the move away from tape is a good thing.
