I was wondering if the AJA IOHD would support the AVC codecs. Maybe that will be forthcomming in a software upgrade.
It will be interesting to compare how it handles upconverts along side a Teranex. $3500.00 will be cheap if AJA built comparable alogrhithyms into it.
Regarding the original topic, I’m going to take a long hard look at the glossy screen. In Apple’s own words the matt finish is provided by adding a matt finish on the glossy screen. That sounds to me like it does/must add a slight degree of diffussion in the process. We’ve all used and viewed glossy on every crt that’s ever been built and been able to live with reflections on them. The laptops are at least flat screens whereas crt’s are usualy curved so reflections are more controllable.

It ebbs and flows, I recall when OSX came out and support for the original kona card on OS9 was in jeopardy. Black Magic was getting all the allocades then.
That said, I’ve never owned any BM products but my 1st AJA product was the famous IO. Low and behold, I couldn’t get it to work properly and the cow crew sent me to AJA tech support. Although I had purchased it as a used product from an individual, I could not run, I could not hide from AJA tech support. They presistently emailed drivers and telephoned me relentlessly until my IO was working flawlessly! I was amazed and continue to be 100% satified with the 3 AJA products I now own. Sadly I have never needed tech support again. 🙁

I don’t have experience with this but the topic has been discussed here before. Try a search for CAC in this forum.
According to this link the lenses are the same but I would think there would be some contact pins on the mount (hot shoe style) so the lens and camera can “talk”

It’s been a while but my G4 dual 450 was buggy with soundtrack. DVDSP and Motion are the big problems which benifitted with the G5 processors. 2 gigs of ram are recommended. Also the graphics cards held you back.
If you are going to try ver.5 do it now before he starts a project.
Search the archives for that time span but probably dvdsp3 and motion are not recomended for your system.

Maybe it’s time to add a caveat in your rate sheet for non genlocked camera edits.

Funny, I was thinking of added a comment that I hadn’t tried it yet myself. I just finished downloading it prior to seeing your post after stumbling on it while researching something else. Sorry about the advice and thanks for the heads up. I’ll look into it before I install for sure.

I had 2 PD100a’s that wouldn’t play back each others tapes. I would get such bad video dropouts I never got close enough to check audio sync. If I captured using each camera I never had any problems. This was before multicam but I don’t recall any audio sync issues with the footage.I was able to figure out which was the bad camera because it’s tapes wouldn’t work in the decks either but as long as I captured from it, it worked. I never understood what was really going on though.
If you sync the tracks up at the beginning and at the end is the run time the same over 1’15”?
It’s weird that it worked a week previous.
