DVDSP places chapter points on keyframes only. FCP is any frame.
How about adding a chapter marker at the end of the 30″ clip and just not linking to it in DVDSP. You should actually be able to delete the new one in DVDSP.

Wow, maybe ProRes is good at unwrapping itself and rewrapping all on it’s own. What does Shake and Commotion identify the file as once it’s in there?

Maybe it’s worth posting on the Shake forum here or Apple provides links for several other shake user forums as well. I don’t use Shake myself ( I’ve been afraid of the time investment ) so I may be missing something.

Aja does make converters to convert the the 8 channel sdi embedded audio back to analog from your Kona LH but it may not be cheap. (in other words it may be just as cheap to buy a used aja i/o or pci card with 4 channel out on ebay as what a converter costs)

Since slashing the price of Shake to $500.00 from $4000.00 about 2 years ago, Apple will not be upgrading the current 4.1 version and offers very limited support. Hence it is before ProRes technology and not compatible. Until Apple releases the new advanced Shake you will have to do work arounds to take advantage of the 4.1 application.

How efficient is the wireless transfer? Weren’t they getting pretty good transfers via wireless and communication and control of other devices at macworld? I haven’t looked into actual date rates but maybe it’s like when the 1st macs appeared on the scene without wha… no floppy drive???!!!... That caused pandemonium for for a while.

Sounds like you are sending it out. Do you have an AJA card or anything that will play out the time line as SD. If so you could plug that into a cheap dvd recorder and record to dvd off the timeline.

Great idea Shane! A use for tape cases! I just tried a small betacam case and it’s a perfect fit on the sides and 1/2″ too long on top and just thick enough. My findings:
VHS…………………. – top is 1.5″ too tall and 1/8th” on each side. Thickness is snug.
Sm. Betacam……… – top is 0.5″ too tall is snug on both sides. Thickness is snug.
Sm. 3/4″ ………….. – Top is 0.5″ top + Bottom; 0.5 on both sides. Thickness allows 1/8th” each face for padding.These specs could vary from one manufacturer to the other.
I suppose the small 3/4″ cassette cases are the best because you could pad the inside if you were going to be transporting them at all. By gluing camera bag foam inside you would have some nice cases. If you went into assembly line mode you could do 20 pretty fast (considering they are $20.00 ea. to buy it would be time well spent)
The small betacam cases were the tightest fit with no room for padding. If you just want something to keep them insulated on the shelf they are the best fit.
I’ll have to spend the time to remove the tape hub cylinder locators in the lid of the cases but considering I’m saving $20.00 ea, I’ll do it.
You can open the drive icon in the desktop and display as list. Copy and print the contents and include this info in the label sleeve of the cassette jacket.
I’ve purchased a number of various sized rack shelves to fill up vacant space in my racks. I only put cd’s and books in them though because of all the electrical components in the racks. I’m sure there is one big electrical field around the racks. Things like hard drives that have electronics with various chips on board and tape stock that is sensitive to magnetism are stored in wooden shelving. I know you can buy lead lined shelves for this but if you are careful and aware you can keep things pretty safe.

Yes the internet has certainly changed evertthing. Today we have school kids creating content and they get their input from the web. Less and less time is spent in front of the tv because we aren’t watching, we are creating. Advertising money is harder to come by without the demographics of a lot of viewers. Avertisers are buying time only from broadcasters as their ads are already produced independently for a reasonable price.
I’m sure there are some people who wish Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak were never born. You used to have to spend hundreds of thousands to produce quality video imagery. Companies like Play Inc. saw the possibilities of mass marketing and made it their doctrine to provide a “Studio in a Box” to everyone for under $5000.00. They came close but where they failed Apple suceeded.
Companies like TGV could just as easily pick up one of the dinosaurs made derilect by FCP like Speed Razor and reserect it into something from the ground up. Or is it more about creating a bigger margin between high end systems and consumer/prosumer systems by quashing the biggest thorn in the side, FCP. The old adage “the rich get richer and poor get poorer” analogy. Like anything with the Grass Valley name on it, you know it’s going to be
good but exspensivegoodn’ expensive.I think Apple has done a pretty good job with FCP. It’s easy to look around and want parody with the better features of other programs but all and all FCS2 is a hell of package for the money.
It could be Apple looked at their financial graphs and saw that 1 -2 months before mac world sales of work stations dropped off and so they started announcing at NAB. But then they noticed 1 -2 months prior to NAB the same pattern developed. We all stopped buying in anticipation of the new product they would introduce us to in April. Maybe now they just want to announce the new technology when it is available so we won’t be holding our breath before investing in new gear and their graph will level off.

I think the imac is credited as saving them from extinction. Then the G3 with firewire being released with fcp 1 at a time when sony gave us the VX1000 was a timely happening.

This could change if FCP became windows compatible. We could all be driving Volkswagons.
I have to think every time a new client leaves my edit studio they look at macs with a little more interest the next time they’re in the computer store. It’s all accumulative advertising for Apple in a way.

It seems to me around 1998 when windows NT enabled the basic pc to edit video avid and others announced migration to NT and there was a period where mac was out in the cold, until the imac and the consumer market revived them. FCP saved their butt (for me anyway)

What scares me is FCS could become that “extreme” app under GVT’s hands and be priced Discreetly. Color would not have been the freebie but another $25,000.00 add on. Everyone outside of Hollywood will be using final cut express.
