Sounds like a great “make work project”! As long as these bands are not already signed to a recording label you should be able to do what Andrew suggested with a contract to get started.
Get a budget worked out to pitch to the venues and other sponsors. For example it will cost $10,000.00 to film and edit and author dvd’s with nice packaging. Get 5 sponsors to kick in $1000.00 (or more) up front to have their names and signage on the cover and appearing throughout the video with a strong presence. Explain you need to recoup the balance through dvd sales so you get the 1st chunk of those profits or say 75% till you get your end covered, after that the clubs and bands get an even cut. The bands can sell them at all their gigs and it will make them look more accomplished. The venues can sell them as well. I can see each band selling the dvd a little harder if it were just them on the dvd. You may end up producing a set of dvd’s.
If the musicians don’t have a sound guy with a mixer you should try to team up with one who has the smarts and the gear so you can record a decent live recording and feed a mix to one of your cameras.
Upsell your sponsors on the idea of producing their own 30″ tv spot to be filmed concurrently for a bargain price as there is some over lap. The tourism for Tampa Bay could also be prospective clients.
Watch out for trade marks and logos in your shots. Recognizable people in the audience should be band groupies or wives and friends who sign model releases.

I would think with a laptop you could work AND play golf at the same time!
This reminds me of when Apple replaced my 23″ cinema display for a high dead pixel count. My dealer called me in to get the new one but he tested it while I was heading down there only to find it had major problems. I think there was a 3rd defective one before I finally settled for one with the same dead pixel count as my original a month later. Apparently they access replacements from a local bone yard and nothing comes from the factory like I’d imagined.

I’ve had great results by walking into a trendy department store that has a large cosmetic department and asking the gals at the different stations. It seems a lot of highly trained pros work in these places between film gigs and the other gals know who they are and will connect you.
Places like Mac cosmetics have their own stores and they do faces right there. A lot of these people are well trained for the film industry.

Apparently Nokia is now making skins for the HVX to match their cell phone skins for changing the look of you cell phones. As well as the popular neon colors they have pokadot and other patterns to match your HVX to your cell phone to create a new look for every day of the week! Of particular interest to us cowpokes are the B&W dairy cow patch skins. 🙂

Seriously, here are some links to Barry Greens DVD’s and popular book. I’m sure there are other similar products that others can recommend. With knowledge garnered from these resources and a lot of trial and error there are many personal preferences you can achieve.
Depth of field attachments for 35mm lenses such as the Red Rock micro are probably the main add on you can use to radically alter the imaging you produce from the camera.
Matte boxes with creative/technical filters are other options as are Century w/a and tele adapters.

Where does the sdi come into the equation? What converter are you using?
If all you are doing is recording 720P30 to P2 cards you can use the rca composite out to the rf unit. Conversion is done for you in camera. You can only have 1 output at a time connected, you can not connect component AND s-video or composite because the component takes precedence and will cancel the other out puts on the camera.

Don’t forget there is a new, just out version of the BT-LH1700. It is the BT-LH1760 and there are a few improvements. Mostly is the pixel to pixel resolution which would allow you to zoom in on a 1280×768 (monitor resolution) area of your active format to aid in critical focusing. This new monitor has a host of new features like 120Hz scanning, WF + VS monitors (new improved) and I think HDSDI is now built in and no longer an option. The HDSDI won’t help with the HVX200 but it’s nice to have. Worth a look and it would double as an editing monitor as it is 120V/12V.
