This can be tricky as the card isnt a traditional audio i/o card as you might expect. The card needs to have a video signal present to “activate” or “lock” the card. Open the BM capture program and also the BM control panel. Pretend you are capturing a tape with audio. Make sure you are seeing the audio meters active in the capture utility once they are active, change the control panel settings to see the mixer input. I am using AES audio from a Yamaha digital mixer via and HD-SDI stream. This can be done and you can make it work. The key is to have that active video input.

In the end I gave up on this and bought a USB audio interface to eliminate all the nonsense and switch flipping. I am much happier.

    Hi Brittany,

I have a very similar setup to you and am able to work pretty well. I use Arri Alexa footage quite often and also am working @ 23.976. Lets start from the beginning:

    1) Arri Alexa Pro Res files should be 1920 x 1080. I havent seen any in the dimensions you outlined.
    2) Choose a BM sequence preset of Uncompressed 10bit @ 23.976 1920 x 1080

I suspect your Panasonic monitor is not capable of displaying true 23.976 and it will not sync to it. My Panasonic Plasma is a VT-25 and it is capable of displaying a 23.976 signal. Thats the first thing to confirm.

The next option would be to use a BM Uncompressed 1920 x 1080i at 59.94. That is a broadcast standard that your TV should be able to display.

Your audio issues also seem to be suspect. That mixer should easily give you the flexibility to connect to your studio monitors and control the room volume and give you headphones.

    Hey Thomas,

One more thing that gets often overlooked by newer users. In addition to selecting the Blackmagic Player in the preferences, you need to use a Blackmagic sequence preset. Often new users are using a native Adobe sequence preset and they don’t see anything on their monitor.

Let us know if that does the trick.

November 8, 2011 at 2:31 pm in reply to: Red Epic Scaling

    Hi Kevin,

Thanks for the information. I still have a bit of confusion on this. Let me explain The Epic resolution is 5120 x 2700 as displayed by DaVinci details. Project is set up to 1080p. When I click on a clip in the timeline and then go to the format tab, the zoom range is .250 to 4 and seems to be working as expected. But if I right click on the viewer in the top right of the DaVinci interface and select “show actual size” it seems as though there is much more image to zoom in on. I am used to seeing a wireframe outline of the full raster in other programs and that aids in determining how I am repo-ing the shot. Right now I am not 100% sure the math thats going on. One thing I really want to know is how I can determine if I am scaling larger than 100%

    Thanks
    Ray

    Hi Matt,

I hope I am not hearing what I think I am hearing? The top performance card for a Mac Pro is currently the Quadro 4000. I would think that this card would have been tested and certified many months ago. Also with the new Mac Pro’s shipping with Lion, I think you guys should always have at least one or two machines of each generation for testing and qualification.

We are receiving a new machine with Lion and a Quadro 4000 in a few days. I will certainly report my experience here related to the GUI bug and also overall performance and stability.

    Hi Peter,
Did you update to Lion or did you do a clean install? Also where did you get an approved nvidia quadro 4000 driver for Lion? I couldn’t find one on their site.

    Thanks Ray

    Hi Peter,

Can you let us know your current experience with 5.5.1 and the current BM Drivers? A short while back, you mentioned it wasn’t working for you:

    https://forums.creativecow.net/readpost/124/877681

Now that Matt has weighed in “Officially” that no driver update is needed, I would love to hear that things have improved.

    Matt,

Can you update the support documents/notes/readme files to specifically say that version 8.5 is compatible with Premiere Pro 5.5.1 that would make it much less confusing for all of us. Also is there a known Quadro 4000 driver / Cuda version that has been qualified and tested by Blackmagic at this point?

    Thanks
    Ray

September 15, 2011 at 1:29 pm in reply to: Adobe Premiere Pro 5.5.1

How about we let Blackmagic be the pioneer? This forum has become very sparse with any input from Blackmagic. With Adobe making such bold moves recently and also having such a great presence on a variety of forums, its a bit discouraging that Blackmagic doesn’t spend a little more time with its existing user base and explain whats coming down the line.

There are lots of users who could really benefit from better integration between the Decklink products and Adobe software. In the latest post on the Premiere Pro work area page:
    https://blogs.adobe.com/premiereprotraining/

    It says this:

We have also been working with several providers of plug-ins, codecs, and hardware devices (such as Cineform, AJA, Nvidia, and BlackMagic) to assist them in updating their software to fix some errors and crashes. Please take this opportunity to download and install updated codecs, plug-ins, and drivers from these providers, as relevant to your work.

All I am asking for is an official response from Blackmagic that says “yeah were all over it, well have something coming out soon that works well with CS5.5.1”

    Simple.

    Hey Peter,

I am right in the middle of some heavy jobs and there is no way I can risk it:). We need a brave soul to give it a try. Or we can hope that Blackmagic responds to this post.

    Anyone?
