  • This is a real problem right now with Premiere Pro and CS-5.x
I typically work with many different audio assets and use JKL all the time. I find it very frustrating being an editor and not having this functionality when I work on a system with the Blackmagic cards.

I suspect you will need to remove the card if you want to gain the feature back. It seems for whatever the reason, no vendor can make their cards work correctly with Premiere Pro CS-5.x The lack of response also may indicate that there is no solution until CS-6 comes out with a potentially new SDK kit. Another area that seems to compound the issue is the MAC OS. This is a real shame because many Final Cut users are now looking closely at Premiere Pro as a solution. Their is also a very well documented GUI bug when using Premiere Pro on the MAC.

Premiere Pro is a great tool, but I find myself completely dissatisfied with the current implementation of the third party I/O cards.

  • Hi Peter,

I also have had a variety of issues with CS-5 and Premiere Pro. The good news is your not alone and its not specific to Blackmagic Design. Matrox and Aja are in the same situation. I would like to discuss some details with you when you have a moment. contact me . ray at thisisuppercut dot com

Regardless of hardware I/O driver issues….With the current MAC only GUI bug, the MAC platform performance overall is way way less than the PC. Hopefully Adobe targets and corrects this issue sooner than later.

I think the conversation got derailed here. There are little things that make the MAC experience more tolerable, but when directly comparing to the PC, even a much less powerful one, the PC is running circles around the MAC version of Premiere. I have both the MAC and PC and right now today 7-21-11 the MAC version is not working nearly as well.

There is a well documented GUI problem that makes it feel like your are editing underwater. The laggy performance of moving clips around the timeline needs to be addressed by Adobe quickly. This seems to be affecting the newer 8 core and 12 core machines primarily. You can read about it here:

If you add in any capture card, be warned that the user experience will be drastically different than using the GPU for full screen playback. Another major area that needs overhauled.

    Hello,

I have experienced this problem and solved it by turning off the Windows 7 Aero interface.

    Appearance and Personalization>Change Theme>Windows Classic

Once this was completed the grey zoom bar was solid and flicker free.

I can change the playback frame rate for sure in Premiere, but what is not changing is the look. I can slo-mo the shots but there is a real difference between a ESPN video slo-mo look and a NFL Films / 24p look.

Is there any definitive answer to the shooting mode here? I am trying to find out if the camera mode made a difference or not. I suspect there is a difference between 720 60p and 720 23.976 Overcranked to 60fps

I agree….and have worked on many different projects with slo-mo. But in the case of these files from The Sony EX-3 it is not working that way. For the reasons I mentioned in the first post.

So..back to orginal question…was the Sony EX-3 in the wrong mode to accomplish a film look? 720 60p vs 720 23.976 overcranked to 60fps

    Thanks

    Everything was shot EX-3 720p 60p (59.94)

    Premiere Pro – CS-3
When the footage is imported it is listed as 59.94. I can import this footage into a 59.94, 29.97 or 23.976 project and from there I can interpret the footage to play at any frame rate. But the footage never looks like 24p it looks like great video slo-mo.
