This isn’t as simple as an answer to give as you think.

If your running any length of SDI or going thru routing you may find the AJA hardware better but without all the information one can not give you a clear answer. Tell us what your looking to do…………

Both boards support it.

I can say the AJA hardware is used by professional studios daily and they continue to request AJA.

The product is still not available, like many others claiming to be out there. AJA, BM, DVS and others make products that are shipping now. Until we can pack all the features we have become accustom to in the current shipping products(boards), we are left with systems not laptops for this crucial stage in the operation.

It will be interesting to see who of the big 3 will move to this but I bet you will see them design and built their own not use a competing product.

Lets try that again, sorry misread your post.

Can you confirm that the deck is sending 1080 23.98 out?

If not, check the deck settings. I recall Sonys manual to be not very helpful in this regard. If this is a rental deck, a call to the rental company will help you out as to where to change this setting.

Although I can’t lend much help on the FCP side, capturing 444 from the SR is very simple (done it many times). Have you tried this with a capture setting of 1080p 23.98?

Hello….been awhile.

We have been running AJA boards on 64bit for about a year now 🙂

I would check directly with AJA if they recommend specific models as I am not a Windows person and there may be know issues with the OS.

We support both the PCI-X and PCIe versions of their boards and use Slamd64 which is Slackware for 64bit (for Linux).

Funny you should ask……we have been doing this for years with the AJA products. Konas, Xenas or OEM boards, they are all the same to us.

Designing and developing a robust DDR has been lots of work but very rewarding (the people we get to work with). The RS422 alone will keep you chasing your tail (you would not think this to be the case). But a DDR, like a deck must connect to anything and be controlled by anything without flaw and again run like a rock. With the help of many studios worldwide we have done this with RaveHD. The entire code base (including the I/O driver) is our own so making something work efficiently is easy.

Now onto portable.

This has been the question for several years. Understanding that we are entirely uncompressed, the question or rather problem of getting it down to a portable unit has been a goal. Again a robust portable solution. HD can run off several drives, so slapping a few drives in a MAC or PC might seem like a good idea (and will most of the time work) but remember your needing to replace that SR deck that doesn’t work most of the time, it works all the time.

Sooooo having said this. We are currently involved with a very high-end project with multiple cameras and a technical team that is as cutting edge as they come. The combined effort is allowing us to tackle this portability issue head on and at the same time allowing us to introduce features such as native DNx and OMF support as well as removeable 2:3 on the fly to name a few.

Taking an off the shelf software package will only get you about 80% of the way for what you need, we all know it’s the last 20% that is the hardest.

DVCproHD comes in both formats, however not all of the Panasonic decks support 1080 so confirm that your deck does.

AJA boards support both so confirm with AJA that your board will do both.(They have different models)
