I am trying to capture some footage shot on the Genesis Camera at 1080p 23.98 444SQ, the problem seems to be that the Kona sees the Dual link SDI signal as 1080i 29.97 on each link, so when I try and ingest the footage Final Cut gives me a ” Time Code Error”. I am using the Sony SRW-1 deck to playback the footage could this be the problem? Has anyone used the Sony SRW-5000 deck with the Kona 3 to capture 444? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Although I can’t lend much help on the FCP side, capturing 444 from the SR is very simple (done it many times). Have you tried this with a capture setting of 1080p 23.98?

Lets try that again, sorry misread your post.

Can you confirm that the deck is sending 1080 23.98 out?

If not, check the deck settings. I recall Sonys manual to be not very helpful in this regard. If this is a rental deck, a call to the rental company will help you out as to where to change this setting.

    Good luck,

The footage could have been recorded in 29.97 have you verified it is actually 23.98?

The frequency on the SRW deck needs to be setup correctly for playback at the proper frame rate.

The manual is fairly straight forward on explaining how to set up the menus .

The srw-1 is very easy to setup compared to the srw-5000 series decks.

Consult with the engineering staff at the rental facility you obtained the deck or hire a qualified engineer to set up the deck for you.

    Tony,

Glad to hear they made improvements in the manual. It was trial and error to figure some things out with the 5000 series.

    Cheers,

What format does the Kona Control panel indicate. If displays the format it detects i.e. 1080psf23.98 for the SDI inputs.
