  • I got the following error on a couple naughty Cineform avi’s (from canon dslr) when working in AE — and I didn’t even import the audio from Premiere Pro! Unfortunately, you can’t render these video files while you get this error.

“audio conforming failed for the following file: (my video name).cfa. perhaps due to disk space.”

The solution was simple — just separate out the video from audio with VirtualDub (and in my case, replace the original video file since I didn’t need the audio and wanted AE to link to the same video). No more render problems. Just thought I’d post it here for posterity.

Problem’s gone, maybe it was enabling “Raw Data” in ffmpeg settings.

On another forum site, someone had a similar problem, saying “I get an AVI Decompressor::XForm Out when trying to play a LAGS .avi file.”

Later, he fixed it, stating, “I fixed it. It was a combination of the “prevent upsampling when decoding” and ffdshow not kicking in with filter merits. Got it fixed.”

But I don’t know how to do what he’s saying! Any help? Please?

You might want to check that the MainConcept video splitter is also being used (if there is one…).

You could try lowering the values of alternative mpeg video decoders to the 200x level to ensure that MainConcept is used by AE. Make sure you write the values down first, since you may want to set them back to normal and messing with this stuff is dangerous.

Set Mainconcept to 8001, ie highest level.

Of course even if this works, your HDV footage will be so slow in AE that it’s unworkable. I would recommend either not using AE, or exporting your vid as an uncompressed avi/animation mov to use in AE, or using automatic duck / some other software that serves the HDV footage to AE in a manner that it can handle (costs $$$).

Right-O!! Turns out I had changed the merit value of FFDshow Video decoder to Do Not Use earlier when adjusting my direct show filters so that MPEG2 files would load in After Effects, and guess I changed ffdshow vid codec as well. Turned it back to Normal, and now my FLV clips play in Windows Media Player (they work there when you got all the kazaa lite filters goin) as before.

    Thx for the help-O!

Figured it out — changed the video decoder my computer was using for MPEG (ie, mpeg2 files captured by PP) to MainConcept by first finding out which decoder was being used (using GraphEdit: https://www.digital-digest.com/dvd/downloads/showsoftware_graphedit_141.html)
and then bumping up MainConcept’s merit value above that of the bad decoder, using DSFMgr :https://www.softella.com/dsfm/index.en.htm

Now AE properly imports the PP project file’s vid clips, but now my prob is that it plays EXTREMELY slow (whereas PP plays fine…) So maybe I have to just bite it and export to QT lossless format from PP and take it from there…?

This is good advice!! My HDV project would crash every ten minutes from a ‘system error’ and I could only render once each session (at the very beginning). So I deleted all my render files (which were stored on the external drive, along w/ project files, USB2.0 connection), and switched the render files location to the internal C drive, where Premiere program files are located. I haven’t had a crash since, and rendering works perfectly!

Thought I’d share, since it was soo frustrating till the switch.

Ok, I restarted the computer and the render went away — initially. I then did another render (lots of video effects and slowmo on the clips) later, and got the above “Error compiling movie” again. What gives?!

Sorry, I now realize you don’t “use them” beyond noting the margins. But my problem is that my video is going up on the Internet, where the full frame will be seen, BUT may also be burned to DVD and watched on a TV set, where the action & title safe margins come into play.

Thing is, there’s a few shots that have garbage in the overscan area, so is there anything I can do to have a consistent view of only inside the action safe margin on both Internet and TV?

I figure the easier answer is matte black bars on the overscan areas, which would work, but would also take up space on say youtube by showing up there… Thoughts on a better method??

[mike velte] “that’s why we use action and title safe margins”
Could you please explain how you use action and title safe margins? Thanks!
