Yeah I know what you mean. I will try connecting my drive and opening the project on someone else’s computer then. Another strange thing that has happened is that alot of the clips in the project had become slightly interlaced. Since I try to refrain from always de-interlacing, I checked out the field dominance in the Sequence settings and found it set to “none.” This is where I originally set it months ago and everything looked fine. Now it’s not fine so I tried changing the field dominance and re-rendering to see if that would fix the problem and it did! Both upper and lower settings produce the same results of crisp looking image. But what i don’t understand is why it shoudl get interlaced at the “none” field dominace setting when originally it looked fine at that setting. Again I never resaved the project from the time when everything looked fine.
Any thougts? -
thanks I really hope this works, i won’t be able to try it until my replacement firewire drive comes in, probably in a week. But as long as I don’t have to reconnect the media. But if in Media Manager it automatically reconnects, I hope the same problem doesn’t occur where it wrongly reconnects some of the clips, then I’m back to square one. Where do u make a new Project File? Right in the Media Manager/Copy dialog box?

Ok, I see what you guys are saying. But the PowerBook comes with 2 firewire ports, a 400 and an 800. So why not connect the camera to one and the drive to the other? Are u saying that both ports on the PowerBook run off the same internal card and this will be too heavy a load?

wow! Can i do this onto the backup firewire drive? How is it done? And are you sure FCP won’t need to reconnect the files?

Why not capture the footage from the camera into the internal hard disk, and then copy the footage from the internal hard disk onto the firewire drive. Then you wouldn’t need an extra firewire card, and you’ll be sure that the capture and data transfer to firewire drive will be secure and no hang ups from a more complex set up, because let’s face it, the more components u add on and desimplify it the more room there is for technical malfunctions because these systems aren’t that reliable.

hi thanks. What about the g-drive-mini? It is bus powered, FW 800, and they have i believe only 2 models that are 7200 RPM, but those are out of stock. Still do u think this would be a good choice? I don’t know if the “mini” version is less reliable as a workhorse than the standard size version. Have u heard anything about it?

I’m surprised if FCP doesn’t provide a solution for going from PAL to NTSC. They don’t have a conversion Plug-in? I read about the Standard Conversions plug-in on http://www.nattress.com but it doesn’t sound like that will help me since I have done many many speed mods and ramping.

I just bought a PowerBook 1.67Ghz, the fastest available and upgraded the RAM as far as it would go- 2 Gigs. But I guess that won’t help -
