Here are the recommended workflows for creating DVD from HD clips.

Workflow 1:
1. Create a HD sequence in PR
2. Export to MPEG-2 DVD using “Match Source Attributes (High Quality)” preset and make sure that “Use Maximum Render Quality” is checked in Export Settings.
3. Import the files into Encore and build to DVD

Workflow 2:
1. Create a HD sequence in PR
2. File->Adobe Dynamic Link->Send to Encore
3. In Encore, File->Transcode Settings, choose NTSC DV High Quality 8Mb CBR 1 Pass (or) NTSC DV High Quality 7Mb VBR 2 Pass preset and make sure that “Use Maximum Render Quality” is checked.
4. Build to DVD

When you select the preset encoder settings in En/Pr, you have to check the box that says, “Use Maximum Render Quality”. If you don’t, then you get the interlacing artifacts, soft output. Selecting this option often renders moving assets more sharply.

Maximum Render Quality slows transcoding substantially, and requires much available RAM.

You need to add predefined prefixes to the layer names while creating a menu in Photoshop.
Instead of creating menus from scratch in Photoshop and adding prefixes manually, you may want to open a menu from Encore and then edit the file in Photoshop.

DVDs are capable of storing the native 24p (actually 23.976 not 24 fps)stream. With NTSC equipment, it’s not possible to display 24p signal directly as the monitors only support the 60i framerate. Hence, pulldown must be added to the 24p(23.976fps) material to be displayed.
On each DVD encoded at 23.976, a flag is inserted within the Mpeg-2 data stream that instructs the player to repeat certain fields to reconstruct the 29.97 NTSC video. It’s the player which will add pulldown for display on interlaced sets. If it’s a progressive scan player displaying a progressive TV, it will only show the 24 frames.
In Encore, you can import a 24p footages or any pre-generated 24p mpeg files and author 24P DVDs.

You can’t add transitions between menu and video in Encore directly. However you can achieve this by creating menu fade out video from After Effects/Premiere pro and set the video as button transition in Encore.

You may want to try the “Locate Transcoded File” option (Select the SD assets one by one and Locate Blu-ray asset via File->Locate transcoded File).

Closed captions are always encoded with the video assets, it has nothing to do with any menu selection setup.

Then let Encore decides the bitrate. Why don’t you use the Encore’s automatic preset?

Are you able to export the AVCHD car show footages to .avi using cineform ? Are you using a trial build?

Are you using CBR or VBR to transcode the assets?. I would suggest you to use a VBR 2 pass preset with maximum bitrate @ 8 mbps and target bitrate @ 4 mbps. This should give you a high quality output.

Instead of CBR,transcode your video files using VBR 2-pass bitrate settings (Min:1.5 mbps, Target:4 mbps, max: 7-8 mbps).
