the workflow is clearly SD.
I would go with an AJa IO (buy a used one in SD). It works with FW 400 Bus.
As a HD drive I can recommend a Sonnet 400 (FW800) Raid 5. There should be enough performance for SD. As a codec I would go with DVCPro50. There can be a problem with SD 10bit uncompressed.
Capture files on the Sonnet Raid, render files on internal HD (non critical data)
What about USB 3?
I don’t know much of an IMac. The next step would be eSata (The Sonnet can also run eSata)
Tape wise I would go for Digibeta (very good, even in HD workflow). Most Digibeta recorders also take Beta SP. A used one isn’t that expensive. Digi Beta is rock solid.

try compressor/software route. It depends, whether you have a good monitoring system (class1/2 monitor, HD breakout card) or broadcast specs. trust your own eyes. If you have doubts, go for an external expert. They meet at least the broadcast specs and you learn about converting Pal-Ntsc. Otherwise you can spare another dollar right in your pocket.

there is also a freeware program which is called JES Deinterlacer.
I’ve never tried it. But it could do the job.

Hi Frank,

several options:

1. Hardware converter (I think Aja has good ones).
Definetly best results. If you have to do that regulary, that would be your choice.

2. Natress Standards Converter (Graham knows the pixel personally)

3. Compressor directly from FCP (give it a try, its the cheapest way)

fiddling around makes some things even worse than better. If it’s working stick with it. It saves you time nad you might end up with the result you just have.

Tricky this is,

first of all: What frame rate was the audio recorded on? If it’s 24 f/s then you schould go with 24f/s timeline. If there is no such timeline setting, then stretch the sound slightly. I don’t know which programm you should use, but my sound guys can stretch the sound and sync it up (probably logic). The other way round is to stretch your video slightly. It would be 100,08 %. Try 5 minutes chunks. You can hardly notice Lip sync smaller than 1 frame delay.

I think it`s a real studio shot. No green screen (look at the hair). It is easy to produce in a proper fotografic studio.

You have to go manually from one marker to the next and export The still image. That’s the only way I know of.

The photos will scale up automatically in the right size. Do the scaling in FCP. You want to zoom in anyway.
