There is a good program called digital rebellion. It solves most of the problems with FCP. If you want to swap, take Avid MC6 or 7. I don’t believe in the Adobe CC stuff – it is a real rip-off. You don’t own the software any longer, you rent it. If you want to access a film you’ve edited let’s say 4 years ago and if you don’t subscribe it any longer you are not able to reedit or do something. You have to subscribe again.

Be aware that Adobe wants to squeeze another buck out of everyone,

Best program is Episode. It takes a little longer than Mpeg streamclip, but the capabilities of this transcoding program are great,

Hi Alexander,

I wouln’t do it. We still work with Snow Leopard and FCP7. You can work with Lion, perhaps with Mountain Lion but Mavericks? FCP is an old program, still very good, but there is no support for it any longer. To me as a cutter reliability and stability of a editing system is a crucial factor. I doubt that you will get these parameters for FCP7 and Mavericks,

You can probably use a different editing system. I think MC6 (I know, that MC6 can deal with H264 natively) will do the job, perhaps Premiere. With Premiere you can go through XML, with Avid you need a conversion software for XML,

Oh man,

there is little you can do. As you said in the first place: Forgot to transcode to ProRes.
If you transcode through Mpeg streamclip you loose the timecode – so you can’t relink the files again. If you find a way of transcode the clips without loosing the timecode and obviously using the same clip names – then you can just offline the clips, relink them with the new ones – and your work is saved. Perhaps Episode will do it, but I haven’t tried. I always converted in the first place,

You have to nest the sequence (Alt-c) and then click on sequence rendering to stereo. Then export as QT and voilá – you get 2 tracks of audio,

The Xserve Raids have been one of the best raid hardware systems I’ve come across. We’ve still got two of them running with over 80.000 working hours on the HD’s – still working perfectly. So if you want to use the equipment – do it.
The only thing about the Xserve Raids is a max of 10TB per chassis and a performance of 4GB/s. Modern Raids have much more TB capacity and are at least 8GB/s or faster.
