Well, if you have FC.7 that should be done automatically when you drag a clip to the time-line and FC asks you if you to conform the sequence settings to the footage settings. Hit YES.
If not, open a new sequence and in the Sequence Settings, change those parameters (Size, pixels aspect). Set as well “Field Order : NONE”.

Make your self a sequence with 854×480 Squared Pixels.
How do you intend to deliver your movie/
Web video, DVD, broadcast, tape,..?

No reinstall it, clean it.
When ever I make a clean install from scratches, DiskWarrior shows that at least 30% of the directories are “out of order”. Mac OsX is unable to optimize him self.

Hi Vicente,
FC application seats on top of a complicated Mac OS, and is always more possible that glitches, slow downs and malfunctions happens because the system than because the very application. After a clean and proper install of the OS and applications, the system is such mess that hardly can properly run the applications. With the use, the mess increases.
My advice is for you to start by optimizing the System and all your HD. I use DiskWarrior that helps me to make thing running without glitches and applications and HDs working fast.

This can work in the USA where credit, energy and hardware are cheap, where you have industrial and educational discounts., but this pace won’t be fallowed by the industry in the rest of the world, believe me.
Apple will be able to make people change the phone every year, but won’t be able to make the industry to trash all the hardware every two or three years. Is all about money. In a world where the man power price is going down, investing lot of money on cutting wages makes no sense. People will invest in “faster”, only if “faster” pay back. There is a worth floating around: sustainability.

Make sure that you have the default Color and Matrix for the footage you are using, and “Gamm 2.2” is checked on.

That sounds a bit messy.
I guess you want to IMPORT a flash animation in to FC and reexport again after adding some titles.
First you need to convert the Flash file in something that can be edited in FC. Install Perian so you will be able to open the file with QT Player or MPGStreamclip, then convert it to 8b Uncompressed or Prores.
You will be able to add the titles on FC and export the new file with the current codec.
But them you will need some Adobe software (AE, Adobe media Encoder,..) to compress the file again as Flash.
You can also export an H264/Mp4 that will work in Flash Player.

HDTV has just two standard sizes:
– 1920 x1080 SQ Pixels
– 1280 x 720 SQ Pixels
Other sizes and pixels aspects (1440×1080, 1280×1080, 960×720,..) are acquisition formats (HDV, DVCProHD,..).

Hopefully you will be able to keep using third part hardware for a bit longer.

Those are the problems of not using an external pro monitor.
You can not know which is wrong, your Mac or the TV.
Probably both.
