On FCE you had no choice, but now you have many.. Avoid using AIC.
Whatever the source of the footage, is worth to use Prores or ProresLT.
The rendering will takes always longer because is in 10b,, then depends on the complexity of your sequence (Effects, animations, layers, compositing modes,..) and the power of your system.

Bit late.

The fact that 5DtoRGB supports only 10.7. up is something introduced the last few days.
They had version compatible for everything 10.6 and newer (look the two Tweet of 01-31-2013).https://rarevision.com/5dtorgb/
It seems that suddenly they decided to let down people with 10.6.
Or is Apple who is pushing people to upgrades?

The truth is that Nattress developed this plugin because setting the speed at -100% has a bug in FC, but that’s with interlaced stuff, so no your case.

Yes, if is a 17″. No if is a 15″; they do not have S-slot.
But I don’t know from where I’ve got the idea was a 15″.

I think this is a job for FCPX; when the editing has been done before to reach the NLE.

I agree with Sacha, your main issue is the media storage.
However your MBP has no way to plug an eSATA drive.
A FW800 Raid-0 (like the LaCie d2) would be the faster option.

With the details you give about what is on your time-line is impossible to try to figure out the reason of the slow speed.

The only thing you can do to improve the capture (not the picture) is to use a good IO card and capturing in Prores.
The footage won’t be better than on the original tape, but you will avoid adding further compression (DV).
