  • Ingesting 5D footage for FCP

    Hallo everybody,

Following situation: I have one card of 5D footage, which was corrupted, but the files were saved and mostly repaired.
Card structure was of course broken, so ingesting with log&transfer tool of FCP ain’t an option anymore.
I wanted to purchase 5DtoRGB, since I heard amazing stuff about this little app, but figured out, I can’t run it on my system, since its still operating on 10.6.8.
The other cards of that projected were ingested with the L&T tool of FCP.
Now my question: if I Batch capture the clips of the rescued card with Compressor, will I get a similar result of my previous transfers with the L&T tool or will I see the difference?
Thanx a lot for enlightening thoughts in advance!

    Greetz.

That or MPEG STREAMCLIP. Streamclip won’t add the compression title to the export…and they both Batch.

5DtoRGB is good…but SLOW. Takes twice the time of all other options.

I did some test comparing Streamclip, Grinder and compressor.
Grinder and Streamclip weren’t acceptable, way to much saturation and gamma shift.
Destroying all the neat flatness, that my techniColor profile produced.
Compressor seemed ok, but I heard of a cropping issue. Besides its just really important for me, that you do not see a difference with the ingested footage that I did already over the L&T tool of FCP.

5DtoRGB works great on 10.6.8 and even earlier versions.
I’m still on 10.6.6 and no problems.
The only version that requires 10.7 up is the “Lite 1.5.12” (Free).
The previous Lite (1.5.8) still available on their web for free, and the “Batch 1.5.12” supports Snow Leopard.

    Hi Rafael,

    Nice to hear from you!
That is also what I understood at first.
So, I filled out twice the form on heir website to receive the link to download the Lite version for 10.6.x.
They said in the form, that they will send me a download link, but it never happened.
I did fill the form out already twice with two different mail addresses…nothing.
If you have any idea how I could get the Lite version for 10.6.8 that would be amazing!!!

    Thanx.

    Greetz.

It’s free and for many things great…I use it a lot. But it doesn’t do a good job on 5D footage, saturating too much and the gamma shift is too strong. Technicolor gives such a great flat image, with a broadband of latitude, Streamclip harms it too much.
