Open the file in QT or MPGStreamclip and see if the audio is MP2 (MPG-1/Layer2).
In that case FC can not read the audio.
Convert the DVD files to something with PCM audio (48Khz, 16 bits).

When exporting a QT movie, just go to the audio settings, and select AAC instead of PCM.
If you export an MP4 with QT, AAC audio is the default setting.

The process takes longer than with most other options, but if you can afford the extra time, a highly recommend you to do it.
420 codecs (H264, DV, XDCAM,..) have only one Chroma sample for every 4 pixels.
When converting to a 422 or 444, we have to recreate the Chroma that has been discharged on compression. Most applications (QT, FC, compressor, AE,..) will just average the existing values to calculate the missed information.
5DtoRGB uses a more intelligent algorithm to try to rebuild the Chroma as it was before downsampling.
The results are visible.

I’ve worked with HDV stuff only a couple of times, but I’ve seen a lot of post complaining about audio aut of sync with that format.
Sorry I can’t help you much, but if you use the SEARCH in this forum is possible that you find some tips.

Great that you found the reason of that problem.
The truth is that the “Enable 4:4:4 chroma filtering” makes no sense on a 444 codec, most of all when codec can be YUV or RGB and you can’t even choose the flavor.BTW, its makes no much sense to convert H264 to Prores 444 in Compressor.
The only app (as long as I know) that would take any advantage of the codec is 5DtoRGB, that applies real “Chroma Filtering” when resampling.
Prores422 or HQ would be OK.
The best codec for the conversion would be Apple 6b Uncompressed, but makes files too big.

Solid color are complicated to compress. Try adding a very little bit of noise.

That’s right.
When you record on the camcorder memory (no tape), the files are of the PC-frienly kind and they not open in QT. So if the files that you can not open comes from the camera HD, is normal that you can not play them. (I thought you were getting those files on capturing from the tape).To manage those files you need “ClipWrap” (https://www.divergentmedia.com/clipwrap).

Probably he comes from the PC world, when the HDV files get treated in a different way.
When you capture a tape on a PC, those files do not work directly in FC, but when you capture HDV on a MAC, you get plain HDV/QT files that work native in FC and any other QT based application.Your issue with the captured files, I think, is different.
I think those files are not workable.
You have tried to capture HDV with a device that can only play DV, and beside being very different codecs, they use different FireWire protocols.
The fact that FC has being able to produce some files means no much if the files are not fully standard (package and contents).
What really wonders me is that FC has been able to make those files. At least he have tried, but is the first time I heard that.
Normally FC is very picky on capturing and as soon as he something that do not match (capture preset, capture protocol), do not want to work.

That’s smells to some gamma shifting.
Make sure that your Prores sequence is set to render in “10b YUV” or “High Precision YUV”.
In Motion, go to File > Project Properties > Bit Depth and make sure is set to 16b or 32b Floating Point.
