[Sam Blakesberg] ” I assumed added dissolves would eliminate this problem, but even with dissolves, it persists. “
And I assume that you are editing using camera files directly. These are in H.264 codec. You have to convert it to PRORES before editing in FCP.

[Brad Mitchell] ” I’m using the opacity settings in the Motion tab to fade in the upper title.”
Which plugin are you using? The FCP default lower third? The opacity in motion tab will apply to whole text unit. You can’t separate them.
This can be done very quickly in MOTION though.Pradip Patil

September 19, 2011 at 4:37 pm in reply to: FCP to DVD with HDV footage and making the QT movie smaller[Michelle Orpe] “The movie won’t play on my laptop?”
When you say laptop you mean a laptop with Windows operating system installed on it, right?
You should try playing the file using VLC Player.
Here is another way.
If you just need the files for reference purpose then you can export it to some other foramt like H.264 (mp4) for watching it on your laptop.
Use MPEGStreamclip for exporitng mp4 file.Pradip Patil

Try compressor. Use an SD format preset. Search here for tips on how to use compressor to get desired results. You will need to tweak frame controls settings for frame resizing.

MPEG Streamclip lets you join and save multiple files into a single file and it’s faster than FCP.But I am not sure whether there is a loss or not. I have done it a number times for HDV and the output seemed satisfactory to me.

Ally, instead of exporting QT files after syncing why don’t you create merged clips?
I think its definitely a better way to preserve the integrity of the project in case there is any need for media management later.Pradip Patil

Himanshu it’s H.264 that’s causing trouble.
You never edit in H.264, Is your source footage shot on DSLR camera?
You will need to convert it to prores. This is a regular topic here. Please serach for it.Pradip Patil

Anica, it all depends on your frame rates, frame size and format/codecs.
So if you can tell1.Which camera(XDCAM/HDV..) have you used to shoot HD 1080i? I don’t think it will be 24 fps if it is ‘1080 i’
2. Are you transferring the 16mm to SD format or HD format, at what frame rate?

[Anica Grobbelaar] “I am editing a short film that was shot on 16mm film (about 30%) and the rest in 1080i HD.”
What frame rates was it shot at?
[Anica Grobbelaar] “I have a tapedeck at my disposal to capture the film’s tape,”
In what format has been 16mm transfered to the tape?
