  • Im on a g5 1.67ghz os 10.4.8 fcp 5.1
I try to print to tape using the firewire ntsc dv 720×480 a/v easy setup. The footage was 16mm captured uncompressed 10b from a digibeta deck then conformed to 24fps via cinematools. I edited on a 24fps uncompressed 10bit timeline. now I try to print to tape and I get an audio signal but no video. when i stop the export, my camera pauses on a frame and seems to have captured something but in playback Ive only got audio. Very frustrating.
How do I get fcp to add the pulldown back to get a 29.97 print to tape.

    Thanks for the response!

  • Thanks those instructions helped!
    I am now interlace free!!!!
    Can’t thank you enough…

  • Thanks steve,
I understand the basic compositioning of the film to video process but what I am not following is your instructional terminology. For example you mentioned to input your findings from the cadence plug-in into cinema tools but there is no where to actually enter those into the dialogue, they are simply push button options. Also in terms of interpreting the findings of the plug-in I had a few questions on my last email that I will not find in the FCP or Cinema tools manual it is more a matter of clarifying your instructions…

    1. “hit the auto button and it tells you how much to move the offset.” -IN THIS CASE WHAT IS MEANT BY “THE OFFSET” I don’t understand your terminology here what is the offset? where is the auto button? I have installed the plug-in turned off square frames and have the canvas at 100% but when I scrub through it I just get a code like wwwSWWAA or DD? How do I interpret this into something useful that I can use in the reverse telecine dialogue box in Cinema Tools?

    2. “Move around a few frames so that you can see if the whole and split frame sequence in the display matches you video. If so, go back to the first frame and read off AA BB et” -WHAT IS MEANT BY SPLIT FRAME SEQUENCE?
Again your I am ignorant of the terminology. What is the whole sequence? the canvas? the viewer? the clip? What is the split frame sequence? the canvas? the viewer? the clip? What is “your video”? the canvas? the viewer? the clip?

    Thanks

  • Thanks for this but Im pretty much a novice and some of this does confuse me so I hope you will bear with me if I ask some stupid questions.

    1. “hit the auto button and it tells you how much to move the offset.” -IN THIS CASE WHAT IS MEANT BY “THE OFFSET”

    2. “Move around a few frames so that you can see if the whole and split frame sequence in the display matches you video. If so, go back to the first frame and read off AA BB et” -WHAT IS MEANT BY SPLIT FRAME SEQUENCE? I have not downloaded the plugin yet, is this a feature on the plugin?

    3. “and that’s what you enter into CT” WHERE WOULD I ENTER THIS IN CT? it seems as though there is only a few options for setting in CT how can you actually enter something into CT?

    Thanks

  • Another problem…
The files that I got from the digibeta capture were too large for cinema tools to handle and so I had to break them up into smaller files so I cannot work from A. Im a bit confused by all of the options in cinema tools and I have tried several options but it all comes up the same weird interlaced look. I tried contacting the lab that did the reversal and they were really no help

  • Hey There,
Sorry to bother again but I had the footage recaptured from the digibeta tape at 29.97 now I am trying to batch reverse telecine to conform the footage to 24p in cinema tools but it is saying the footage is too large? One file is 30g another is 14g. Any other ways of performing this function in cinema tools or FCP that will work for larger files?

  • great thanks,
I think I will just pay for a professional transfer from the digibeta to make sure that everything is optimal…

  • So the best thing to do is to re-capture the footage from the digibeta onto the hardrive? I tried reversing the telecine in cinema tools but I get an error when I try. it says that the footage is not in NTSC format.

  • yeah seems pretty complicated. Do you have any suggestions in terms of trying to go about fixing the issue. I cannot really find out the settings used to pull the quicktime from the digibeta tape. Im basically just looking for a clean image and the current one is pretty jerky and the image even seems a bit muddy. I guess I’ll just pay the commercial house for a clean transfer and hope that solves it

  • I know that it was transfered at a reliable commercial house from reel to 16mm then someone with access to a digibeta deck did the transfer from the tape to an external drive which I now have. The clips show up as 24p and to me they look odd, camera movements are very jumpy looking and there is a good deal of what i think looks like interlacing issues. Im wondering if I go back to a commercial transfer house and just pay for a transfer from the original tape back to my hardrive if it will look better. 16mm should not look interlaced correct?
