This does my head in considering that Apple is one of the backing companies for Blu Ray back in 2005…

    https://www.apple.com/pr/library/2005/mar/10blu-ray.html

Why would they then create DVD studio pro to support the authoring of HD-DVD and not Blu Ray? Seems like they were barking up the wrong tree!!

Hey, I had this problem too. I had just re-installed the OS and couldn’t get the firewire to recognize, plus it also crashed if I went to capture. I found that getting rid of the preference files didn’t fix this problem but re-installing Quicktime did fix it. Cheers 🙂

…However it would be great to see a feature in the ‘speed’ tool when you open it from the timeline such as a checkbox to say if you would like it to slip the timeline or not.

Less clips to mess up the project I guess. Both work! Thanks 🙂

Don’t worry I figured it out myself – I jiggled the cards around (graphics and memory cards) and all seems to be working fine now (?)!!

August 23, 2007 at 11:16 pm in reply to: What compression software??

I have tried using the controls in Squeeze to try and regain the original picture, and sometimes it has worked OK and other times it has ended up giving me a washed out picture. I spent ages perfecting a pre-comress setting that pretty much matched my original (as good as I could get it considering that I’m matching images visually as opposed to a mechanical setting ensuring that unless I apply a filter it will already look like the original), and then I went to apply it to another codec and it looked completely terrible. Therefore I would have to create settings for each separate codec!! As mentioned by RB “expectation for the use of filters is to change the picture from what you have, NOT returning it to what you have”. I’ve got better things to do with my time than waste it fixing a picture back to what it should have been to start with!! And considering the amount I paid for the software….

I agree that Cleaner blows – I tried maximum setting for an MPEG 2 compression and I had major artifacting. Not happy! However thanks for the link to Episode – really happy with the interface, custom controls and the quality of the output. I’m going to put it through further testing but it seems the best so far. Does anyone know how well it handles HDV output?

THANKYOU! Worked like a charm! Didn’t even know these extra menus existed. Thanks again.

Only that which I mentioned in my previous post. I just used ‘same as source’. The thing is that when this is imported back into final cut pro the quality is perfect – even if imported into sorenson squeeze the resolution is OK. It’s only on quicktime playback.

July 12, 2007 at 12:30 pm in reply to: Digi beta on portable MacBook Pro running FCP

Thanks for that. I thought there would be a solution. I don’t think I’ll take the job though as it’ll cost the client too much money if I were to hire this converter AND a digi beta – that and I don’t have digi beta experience! Great tool to know about when I do want to move down th SDI route. I suppose what would be better to have though would be an internal card on my G5 desktop right rather than converting to DV via a converter? Something like the Black Magic card?

Thanks for the help guys – this is helpful, however I don’t think I asked the question properly. What I was meaning was how can I share an external hard drive attached to a mac over an ethernet network?
