I’ve been using the Z1 for a couple of months and I just love it. As you say, the flip out screen is very well positioned, and it can be clearly seen even in bright sunlight.
If you do need a “look” for weddings the Cineframe mode is sensational! I have never been a 24p type of person, but the Cineframe look has impressed me.
I also like being able to assign effects to single buttons, e.g. backlight setting, and also have several Picture Profile settings pre-programmed. Another neat feature is shot transition – you can set up two different zoom/focus settings, then use a button push to smoothly change from one to the other.
I’m sure all 3 cameras you mentioned will do the job, but IMO the Z1/FX1 is something else. Even though everything I’ve done so far has been downconverted to widescreen SD, when HD delivery methods arrive this cam is ready.

also, Vidcap will only recognise it in DV mode. If capturing HDV make sure to use the new internal capture in V6.

If you use Ctrl/Shift F for post edit ripple, or have this option enabled with auto ripple, then markers will move with events.

Keyframing is the only way to vary size and position over time, Doug.
Once you get to doing it it doesn’t take all that long. I recently had to blur six different children’s faces whilst they moved in various directions around a school yard!

Firstly make sure it’s not just the TV settings that’s making it look too bright.
If you use External Preview in Vegas, you can connect your firewire out to a DV camera then the analogue video out from camerera to a TV or VCR connected to a TV. This will allow you to see how it looks on TV whilst you’re putting it together.

– and you can have several instances of Vegas open at the same time.
If one project is nested in another, any changes in the first project, once saved, flow through to the nested project.

Thanks Rick – that’s what I meant by “combination of bezier & chroma” but you described it in much more detail!
– and Bezier masks have controllable soft edges so no-one sees the join

or,
Put the image to be inserted on a higher track and use Track Motion to resize and move the second image around within the background image.
There are many other techniques, including soft edges, but try that for starters.
