The principle behind chroma keying is that the background screen should be a colour that is not present on the subject – green or blue are the most commonly used, but any colour will do, as long as the subject doesn’t have that colour.
With Vegs 5 or 6, you can use Bezier masking, or a combination of Bezier masking and Chroma, but the beauty of Chroma is that you don’t have to draw round each frame as the subject moves.

Simplest way is to grab the top edge of the superimposed event on the higher track and pulling it down – this will reduce its opacity from 99% to zero.
You can also Add a Compsite level envelope to a whole track, then drag it up and down like volume.
Then you can play with the opacity of the lower track, or placing colour, pattern or gradient beneath, etc., etc.

The main contolling factor in doing long form projects is you!
As long as you organise you material so you know what’s what and where, and Vegas offers several ways of doing this, most NLEs will be fine.

I’m pretty sure you need an MJPEG codec such as Morgan to be able to view and edit these.
Can’t remember the exact source but a search for MJPEG should turn something up.I must admit, though, that I don’t understand why Media Player can play these whilst Vegas on the same computer cannot.

Sorry should have made it clearer – I meant that’s all your Voice Over track should record – you should be able to HEAR any existing tracks not muted, in your earphones.
