Sorry, but PAL is Phase Alternating Line which is a clever way of reducing colour phase errors in a composite video signal. There is even a version of PAL that runs at 30fps.
I agree that it has been collapsed into a general meaning of an SD 50i signal though.

Are you running a music composing piece of software like Logic etc? A quick Google leads me to believe that FCP might mistakingly be trying to install that plugin.
If so, do a spotlight search for it and remove it to another location.

I highly recommend the free Pan & Zoom plugin from Noise Industries. I use it all the time on broadcast projects and the quadratic in/out acceleration is superb.
