Toms right, try the corona particle emitter in Motion & drop your image into the well.

A touch hard to find, but go to the inspector/shape and change to Image- the well should appear. You will probably have to add the image to the media tab first though.
Then anything you like can be on fire!

As Final cut server hasn’t been released yet, this is all speculation-

To digitise on another machine you will need some type of shared storage system.
You are right in saying that running FCS on your edit machine and getting that to share out the material via ethernet will slow everything down. It will always happen at the wrong time too – you will be pulling two streams off the XSR and sharing one out.

There might be a workaround though

The XSR has two controllers with a fibre connection each. Route one half of the XSR to your edit and the other half to the assistant machine. Buy yourself a GigE switch and then transfer the material over to the edit side. Thats what I was doing here https://peterwiggins.com/content/view/31/33/ A digitise/edit station and a graphics station.

The alternative is to buy a fibre channel switch and run some San software such as MetaSan. This is obviously a more expensive solution. You could look at ‘SAN in a can’ solutions too like Terrribleblock, sorry Terrablock.

FC Server looks great, but you do need the hardware behind it. It was designed to sit on top of a shared solution. However if you do get it working as somebody has suggested, then please let us all know.

There are things that are different, some things had to be fixed by plugin writers etc.
Also there are new effects such as Bad TV

However, just for the record, can I say ALL of Noise Industries plugins work with FCP6 & Motion3 and that includes my Volumetrix light spill plugin 🙂

I still use a 9100 & a 2000 keyboard!

For the last 4 years or so I’ve had a keyboard sitting ontop of an oversize Wacom. The usable area of the Wacom has been reduced so I can access all the real estate of two 23″ screens.

Strangely enough there is a photo of me infront of a 9100 too!

I’ve used the flying faders on a tascam too, but it was too noisey and difficult to use compared to the software faders.

You could do this with Filemaker & an XML export.
Chances are by the time you’ve got it working you could have finished it manually though.

Another thought, why don’t you put all the files in different bins but call all the media by the same filenames. Then open up a new timeline for each & reconnect.
