There are numerous parameters within the plugin that enables you to tweak the glow to exactly what you want.
I have had excellent results using glow, it really is very smooth.I would say give the trial version a go, it will only take you 5 minutes to load and you can judge for yourself.

There are specialist programs that subtitlte, if you don’t want to use those, try Martin Baker’s subtitle generator for FCP at https://www.digital-heaven.co.uk/indexflash.htm. There is a tutorial movie there.
This will automatically put the black box on.
Also alt drag to move a subtitle, then double click to change data.
Depends on how many you have to do, but a start at $10

Bill,
Are you going to ship it? My XSR flightcase that had wheels was dropped and smashed by cargo handlers at an airport.
Would recommend a snug 2-3inc foam lined flightcase. There is also one big design fault of the XSR which I found out to my cost and hair loss, but that story will be in the article 🙂

The biggest potential problen is the weight of the thing! Get yourself a custom flightcase made that completely encapsulates the RAID as a rackmounting case would have to be very very strong.
Otherwise you shouldn’t have any problems, I haven’t run into permissions problems swopping the XSR between systems.
I’m currently writing an article on “Life on the road with an XSR” and will publish the link when its finished.

Both,
Glad you bought this up and please excuse the capitals for just one para :-
APPLE WILL YOU PLEASE PUT A DECENT 16:9 SAFE AREA GENERATOR IN FCP – I HAVE BEEN ASKING FOR THREE YEARS NOW. IT IS NOT ROCKET SCIENCE BUT WILL HELP A LOT OF PEOPLE GET THEIR GRAPHICS RIGHT AND STOP THEM BEING REJECTED BY OVER ZEALOUS BROADCASTERS. (and Motion while you are at it)
Phew, sorry about that but red rag and bull scenario there.
Now, don’t think I’m one not to bring anything to the party. Shake has the best title safe area 4:3/14:9/16:9 of any of the Apple apps. I agree that running a hour long doco through Shake just to test is out of the question, so that might be why Martin Baker came to the rescue with his 16:9 action/title safe area plugin called widesafe. https://www.digital-heaven.co.uk/indexflash.htm
A bargin at $10, but if your production budget won’t stretch to it (I’ve worked on that job) then a piece of tape on the screen works wonders or if its not your monitor try a dry wipe pen.

p.s. Of course if this has been fixed in FCP5 I’m going to look a bit stupid

Rene,
I’m sure there are people out there running the latest, latest software upgraded versions of everything without a problem.
What is indicative of ‘what is stable’ maybe the fact that Blackmagic are recommending running 10.3.8, & Qt 6.5.2
It depends how close you want to sail to the wind and how much hassle ‘remaking’ something might be should the worst happen.I’ve had to do a clean install already this last couple of months, so I’m now sticking to software versions I know work. I’m now running 10.3.9 but might consider reverting back one upgrade. Problems have a habit of not showing themselves up until you are midway through a project. At the moment, I cannot afford to do that as I have an hours show every night on terrestrial television here in the UK to make.
I think you should be fine with Motion2 though – it is more of an OS problem.

[Todd VanSlyck] “Also, I have to put 400+ names on screen (ugh!). I’m new to fcp, what is the easiest way to type out down and dirty titles? I have live type, but that seems like a huge, time intensive process. I formerly worked with Avid and the cheesy titler is starting to look good right about now…
“Down & dirty??? Make your first tilte on a new video layer, size & position to suit. A good idea here is to check who has the longest name so it all fits
Then alt drag the title to your new position, leaving the old version
Double click to get into viewer and tap in new name
repeatWhy not ask the college for a spreadsheet of all the names – then you could cut, paste & get the names exactly right.

Jim,
I am about to do a three week edit where stability is essential. We are on air every night at 7pm with an hourly show. I’m probably going to revert to Motion1 which works fine under 10.3.8. Other people can have all the crashes.
I’m also avoiding QT7 at all costs.
