Where are you buying the Chinese batteries at for $120 each ? At that price I’d be willing to give them a shot.

It captures just fine. You just have to use playback controls on the camera or from the remote and then the capture now type function from your edit system.

They don’t want you using it as a vtr and so no firewire control. Rental people would freak out and Panasonic would have more warranty service to perform if they let you did that.

Well really the AJ-EC3 is only about 1/3rd smaller, half the weight, and has half the blinking lights. It isn’t that much less bulky and does half as much. You’re losing a lot to save maybe 2″ for width. Its the same height and depth.

It works fine. No issues at all other then the less then rugged design of the firestore and the worry of the cables falling out. Its also rather awkward to find a place to put the thing a lot of the time.

It’s still listed so, hopefully it is. Guess I’ll bug them on Monday. I wonder if the special deal means they have something new about to launch.

Thanks John. Have you ordered from these guys before and any idea what the ‘-special’ part might be about ?

I notice they have it also listed for $11,880. Ordering anything ‘special’ from electronics dealers in east coast makes me freak out a bit 😉

Where did you find a 5750 for well under $10k ? I’ve been wanting to pick on up but, last time I looked around I was being quoted almost $12k.

I didn’t hear any specifics. I don’t think it’s being thought of as a Varicam. It seemed like it was a separate project.

They specifically said the Varicam 2 is three years away and they had just started work on it.All this stuff changes daily of course. If they did come out with a Varicam 2 at NAB I’d be surprised but, I’d get over it.

Sorry. I missed where you mentioned you knew about the problem. There do seem to be a few PCI-X cards out there but, I haven’t used any. Here’s one I found https://www.datoptic.com/cgi-bin/web.cgi?product=1394B-PCI&detail=yes

Slots 2 and 3 share the same buss and will only operate at the speed of the slowest card on the buss. With that firewire card in that mean PCI speeds. Only way you have a chance of making this work is to find a PCI-X firewire card or getting your computer fixed.
