Been on with Apple Tech Support, I know, last resort most times. They had not even heard of this problem and tried to blame it on Flip4Mac, my BlackMagic Drivers, etc.
I find it sad that we in the trentches don’t have someone from Apple monotoring the boards. Let alone have an entire division let out something that disables my ability to injest media?
Wow,

Jeremy,
I really appreciate your attempts to help here. I was just over on the apple board and some of them are gettting a visit from Kernel Panic when they try to import. I tried the prefs. I am running a PPC dual 2G 6G Ram. I am trying the copy ing to boot and see if that works. I tried repair permisssions nadda.
Seems they at apple better start paying some OT to get this fixed pretty quickly and timely. ha ha not so ha.

I checked and there’s no such thing as Perian component. Only DVCPROHD stuff Uncompressed and Flip4Mac WMV and FLV.component, Live Type, Motion, Backmagic and appple stuff.
QT 2 was a disaster this is a major debacle. I wonder what fun they can come up with 7.4?

Ya know I could understand one of us guys not trying to import a P2 card. But What the FRig were the “test team” thinking? Oh yea, may be not so much.

I am having this exact problem. I had 43 P2 cards logged and then did the update because I had not yet started editing. Now when I open the Log & Transfer window and try to import a P2 folder which was added to the project, I cant even get any of the older 43 P2 folders to show up. This is a “F()&() disaster. These were all logged and audio matched to slates. Two weeks of work.
Does anyone from any of these closly partnered companies have a solution. I am going to try to Go back to QT 7.2 which was a disaster maybe I’ll try 7.1 I understand it’s part of the system and very difficult to do.
FCS 6.0.2 OSX 10.4.11

Barry,
I know the FS has kind of a bad rap. I recently took it to Alaska. We were 300 miles north of Anchorage then flew by Cessna another 200 miles to near the Yukon border. I took the thing on horseback, hiked with it on my back, and it never missed a beat. I guess having my first “yet” on the set would be a very bad thing though. I had a couple of the small 160G Webbie Tech buss powered FW drives for backup till i got back to AC, and darn, the 720P played back off them pretty well (5400 RPM’s!
On this, our first feature, the DP has 4 – 16G cards and I have one and two 8’s, so i think that should hold us. As far as cross platform, i haven’t been on an Avid in a while and got a call from a friend with a new Mac Adrenaline and he was having a heck of a time getting the P2 files ingested. I pointed him to this forum.
I have P2 Log which i use less and less on my G4 laptop. The import to QT for FCP in P2 Log is quite slow compared to FCP. Why would I want to try Raylight? I just came across it and it seems popular.
Thanks very much for your time, (BTW, i did buy your DVX100 Book and it was/is great) I appreciate your willingness to share.

I am very familiar with the P2 workflow from the HVX200, so that’s the way for me. As far as format, I am meeting the DP tonight for some tests tomorrow. 1080 versus 720PN are our choices. It will, for us, come down to a matter of disc or card space. We are pretty much in the boonies so I have a feeling we are leaning to 720p.
I have seen and edited both 1080 and 720 from the HVX200 and truthfully it seems like a big trade off in space for the amount of aesthetic you get with 1080. Barry (see further posts) cleared up for me the P and the PN situation. I was mixing my metaphors so to speak.

Barry,
Thanks again. It looks like 24pn it is. What about P2 vrsus native QT 24pn when using the firestore? I truly appreicate your knowledge of where the “potholes” are 😉

“Once again, we’re small so we can’t afford a full switcher, CCU, HD monitors, etc”
From an editor’s pov. a switcher is a cheap rental piece of equipment (clear coms too) and the CCU’s, well, you won’t have them on 3 isos either. A line cut will save you many hours of editing. As always, it’s a trade-off.
I am glad to hear the 500 cuts well with the 200. We are about to shoot a feature using the PS Technik Pro and primes for the 500 and the PS Mini and primes for the 200.
Just my 2 centavos,
