Exactly which BCC (Boris) filter are you using to generate the shatter effect? Have you tried to set the reverse shatter using the controls in the filter?

Hi Vania,

So … because Premiere Pro uses the After Effects programming set for plug-ins, we could not make BCC 2-input transitions for this host. In FCP and Avid we can make the transitions work just like native transitions, ie, you please the transition between the clip pairs and the transition will auto-animate between the clips.

To make the BCC Transition filters work as a transition between a pair of clips, you’ll have to have some overlap between the outgoing and incoming clips. Let’s say you have the outgoing clip on track 2 and the incoming clip on track 1 and that the outgoing clip overlaps the incoming track. Then you apply the BCC Transition filter of choice onto the outgoing clip. Then with the animation mode set to percent done, set a keyframe where you want the transition to start. Set the value for percent done to 0. Then move to the part of the clip where you want the transition to end and set another keyframe for percent done and set the value to 100. Then select the incoming clip in the Layer to Reveal pop-up. The outgoing clip should now transition to the incoming clip.

Hi Vania,

Because of the way that Adobe works, and I’m assuming that you are using After Effects, there are no true 2-input video transitions, only multi-input filters that are made to pull up a second input from another layer in the stack. The result that you get is exactly the same – outgoing track reveals incoming track – but it works just a little bit differently and requires a little more set up.

Is there a transition effect in particular that you are looking for?

Are you using the most recent version of the Boris XML Transfer software? I only ask because this sounds very much like a bug that we fixed and made available as a free update. If you have not yet updated, I’d suggest downloading the free XML Transfer updater and running that, then exporting again to see if it solves the problem. If it does not please let us know and we will do whatever we can to solve the problem. You can reach us via email at support@borisfx.com.

Hi Peter,

Although I am unaware of any issues that you might experience with the upgrade, I would strongly advise you to clone your main system HD before you make any changes. Many people use Carbon Copy Cloner to do this – if you haven’t heard of this app it’s donate-ware, can be downloaded quickly and easily from the web and seems to work very well. In fact, I’ve used it myself with 100 percent success. The reasoning behind this suggestion is, of course, that should anything unexpected occur, you can always go back to a set up that you are confident will work.

And should you encounter any unexpected behavior after the switch, please get in touch with our support guys – I’m sure one of them can walk you through any issue with the system.

The software combination that you are attempting to use, Sony Vegas Pro 10x with BCC 7 OFX on Windows XP 32, is indeed a tested and approved configuration. The fact that the installer is posting an error message regarding the serial number is certainly a clue and will help in sleuthing the issue.

Hi,

A simple approach to the problem is do it this way:

• create a 3D null object and animate the position of the null so that it rotates around the object that you want as the center (the sun in your example)

• create a new 3D solid layer and apply the BCC 3D Object filter to that layer

• parent the 3D layer to the animated null

This leaves the problem of how to set the face of the 3D Object (the planet) so that it turns away from the camera as it orbits the center (the sun). Here’s how to do this:

• add an expression to the Orientation Y parameter of the 3D Object

• pickwhip the Orientation Y parameter of the 3D Object to the Y Rotation parameter of the Null

• animate the Null object so that it makes one turn in negative values over the duration of the effect (from 0 to -1)
