Hi Chris,

The Boris RED filter will take on the project dimensions of the clip to which it has been applied. If you need to use D1 but your media is 655 x 480, then create a new track above the media, generate a slug at D1, cut the slug into the new track above the 655 x 480 video and apply RED to the slug.

Are you seeing a difference in video quality after you render or before you render?

The black dots that you are seeing over the render are a mystery. Are you seeing this with any other filter or only with Boris RED? Also, are you seeing the same result when the OpenGL preview setting in RED is enabled or disabled?

Hi Rex,

Very odd indeed – let’s start with the basics.

Are you using the latest versions or Sony Vegas Pro and BCC 7? If not then I would suggest that you upgrade each of these. If you are not current with the updates, let’s see if updating makes the problem disappear. If it persists, then we need to consider the graphics driver. If that i snot up to date then we should rev that to the current version and again, see if the update makes the problem go away.

Can you please try that to see if it helps?

Hi Hector,

The problem with using the BCC 3 Way Color Grade filter in Boris RED is that the color spheres were not updating in real time and therefore, in order to see the grade you have to click and drag on the sphere and then release the mouse, making it less interactive than we felt it should be. When used in After Effects, using the filter is an interactive experience with immediate feedback while adjusting the color spheres and this is exactly how it will work in RED. We’re currently working on this problem and expect to have the BCC 3 Way Color Grade filter working this way in RED with an update that we will release fairly soon.

Here’s the breakdown:

FX is a subset of RED
Graffiti is a subset of RED
RED can do everything that can be done in FX and Graffiti plus a whole lot more. While all of these applications can use he video card for preview, they all rely on traditional scan-line rendering for the final result. Just like all other compositing and animation applications such as After Effects, Nuke etc. Also, all of these applications are cross platform – Mac and Win.

Blue is slightly different – it’s really designed for real-time 3D titling and animation. It uses the video card for both preview and the final render. If you need a lot of 3D titling then Blue is a fast way to get results. Plus Blue includes vertex and pixel shaders, which makes possible some pretty cool looking title animation effects. Blue is Windows only.

Hi,

While some will indeed operate as expected, others might fail. We don’t really know exactly which 3rd party AE plug-ins will or will not work in RED – we tested some of them but not all of them. I think the only way to discover whether they will work or not is simply to install the filters and give them a shot.
