Hi,

There is a solution to this problem. First you’ll need to have both RED 3 and 4 installed. Then you need to open the RED 3 effects, promote them from AVX 1.5 to AVX 2 and apply the effects back to the timeline. The promoted effect will now open in RED 4. Once you have promoted all of the effects from AVX 1.5 to AVX 2.0 you should be able to safely uninstall RED 3.

Actually I just realized that the Lens Flare effect does not come packaged with RED 4 either so probably your best bet would be to purchase the BCC AVX set and apply the BCC Lens Flare directly to clips in the timeline of your host editing system. Or, you can purchase BCC for After Effects hosts and install it into the copies of FX and Graffiti that you have already purchased.

You are not seeing any animation because this is a Static effect, with a duration of 1 frame only. If you would like to change the length of the effect you may do so by applying the filter to an Empty Event in the Vegas timeline. You set the length of the Empty Event and then add the RED filter to this track.

It is true that neither FX nor Graffiti include the Lens Flare filters, which are however included in Boris RED. It seems to me as though you might have been better served with a RED purchase over the individual purchase of FX and Graffiti as RED includes not only all of FX plus all of Graffiti but also all of the BCC filters. If it’s not too late perhaps you could return the FX and Graffiti packages and get RED instead. Or you could purchase the AE (not AVX) version of BCC and install that into FX / Graffiti. Or you could purchase the AVX version of BCC and use the filters directly within the Avid UI without using FX or Graffiti.

Alternatively, because both FX and Graffiti include the ability to use 3rd party After Effects filters, if you have the Knoll Lens Flare installer you can use that to install the Lens Flare into either Graffiti or FX – or both. I’d suggest reinstalling RED and seeing if that takes care of the issue. Please let me know if this works to correct the problem. Meanwhile let’s see if any of the folk in our tech support lab have seen this before and if so what the cure for the problem was.

So you need to make the slide along the rotated image axis or the comp axis? The BCC DVE filter will operate on the local axis of the image to which it was applied, taking into consideration any other transforms that were applied within the filter, so if you rotate the image using the DVE filter then the X axis will become rotated also. Options for getting around this are to stack a second instance of the DVE filter and use the second filter to control the slide. Or you can use a compositor such as RED to do this work, placing the clip that has been rotated into a container and controlling the slide using the containers’ DVE controls.

Has anything been changed on this system. such as a driver update for the video card? Is this happening when you run RED as standalone or as a plug-in (or both?) Are you running another application simultaneously which may be preventing RED from accessing the video card?
