In a nutshell, you need to apply the filter to a clip byt dragging the filter from the filter palette onto the clip that you want to affect in the Avid timeline, then launch the BorisFX ui by clicking on the little button at the top of the effects window, create the desired effect in BorisFX, and click on the apply button at the bottom right of the Boris timeline window. Then you are back in the Avid UI. You need to render the effect from within Avid. You might want to go to the BorisFX web site, http://www.borisfx.com, if you need help in setting up any of the effects.

Upon review, I’d like to clarify and correct my posting regarding Apple and the AE API.
Contrary to my previous posting, Apple have actually made several enhancements to the AE API for FCP 6 and indeed we completely support the Continuum product for users that wish to use BCC 4 within that host environment.
Perhaps in the future I should think and then send instead of the other way around. 🙂

Not to worry, I believe I can help you.
In understanding what has happened to your system, FCP no longer officially supports the After Effects API, which is the gateway through which filters (including BCC 4) can exist in host applications that support this, such as FCP versions prior to 6.0. They have moved and have developed their own new proprietary API titled FxPlug, which all developers must reprogram their effects to use. Needless to say, it’s a mammoth task. We expect to have our FxPlug filters ready any time now, but let’s get back to the problem at hand, which is to get your system up and running.
Go back and delete the obj cache and preference files from the Final Cut Pro User Data directory (total of three files), then with caps lock enabled, launch FCP. Once the launch is complete, you then need to quit FCP. Then you can disable the caps lock and relaunch FCP. Your BCC 4 filters will now appear. Having said that, we are not officially offering support for BCC 4 filters in FCP 6 and instead ask that users upgrade to the FxPlug version when that becomes available.

Hi Tim,
Yes, summer is indeed here and the BCC 5 filters are just about ready to hit the streets. We are finishing things up with various aspects of the project and expect the release to happen once we complete the final checks. We’re close – real close, and hope to wrap the project up before the national display of fireworks occurs. 🙂 It’s going to be a wonderful release – new filters, more presets, and FxPlug native filters for FCP and Motion.

Hi Lee,
I discussed this problem with engineering and they told me that what you are seeing may be due to the conversion from YUV to RGB and then back. BCC filters process color internally in the RGB color space.
If you could please send me a zipped sample frame, before and after, we’ll take a look at it in our labs to see if there is anything that might be done to prevent this from happening. My email is peterm@borisfx.com

Hi Lee,
By effect method I meant were you using the blur, the mosaic, the brightness, or the tint. The default effect is a blur.
I’ll check with engineering to see if someone knows why we would clip levels like that and I totally understand how this would be a problem in the workflow that you are using.
