Hi,

Instead of a manual, there are built-in electronic help files available for each filter in the BCC 5 product, which can be accessed by clicking on the help button at the top of the filter. Additional tutorials, tips and other helpful materials are available on the BorisFX web site, and there’s even a button at the top of the filter to bring you there automatically when clicked.

I’m surprised to hear that you are experiencing problems with OpenGl on your system – are you using the BCC 5.0.1 or the BCC 5.0.0 version? If it’s the latter then you may want to update BCC to the latest version, which you can download for free from the web site.

Here’s the information that you need to find and delete the offending file. Once you delete this file the problem should disappear.

From the program /Applications/Utilities/Terminal, you can enter the line:

ls -R -l / | grep -B 15 _autorecovery

(where | is the shift-\ symbol, and where the -l is dash letter-L-lowercase )
and see if anything comes up on the hard drive. You can copy and paste that line into the Terminal window. It will take a long time to search. You can ignore the Permission denied errors, since the file of interest was written by this user and can be seen. If you see the file, but this doesn’t list the folder, then increase the 15 to a higher number of lines to look back, like 100, and you should see the path and the file in the output.

Good news – it’s a problem that we have seen before and have a fix for. Here’s what to do:

https://www.borisfx.com/download_files/CalligraphyForFCP.dmg
where download_files has an underscore instead of a space

Then copy the plugins from the .dmg into the folder
/Library/Application Support/Final Cut Pro System Support/Plugins

Hello Hella,

Well, to begin, I have to say that we’re quite pleased that you were able to actually install and run the software on Windows Vista as it’s not an officially supported operating system on the Windows platform. The Boris product line supports Windows XP and 2K but we are still in the process of refining the software so that it will operate as expected when used in Vista.

So … I’ll forward this on to engineering who will take a look at the situation to see if this is something that can be easily worked around while we complete the job of integration into the Vista operating system.

Hi Jim,

Even with the Keep Keyframe Time function enabled, you can still manipulate the keyframes manually by dragging them. You need to be sure about what you are dragging though – and that the media is set to cover the effect for the new length of the composition. Twirling down and looking through the timeline is always a good idea to ensure that everything that you need to extend the length of the comp has been set correctly.

Actually re-reading this it may be misleading. Here’s a better explanation, copied from the RED on-line help system:

The Keep Keyframe Time checkbox preserves the absolute positioning of keyframes when the duration of the effect is changed. Deselecting this option preserves the relative positioning of keyframes when the duration is changed.

For example, if you create an animated effect that is three seconds long, then change the effect duration to five seconds with Keep Keyframe Time selected, the keyframes retain their original positions with respect to the effect timecode.

If you change the duration of the same effect with Keep Keyframe Time deselected, the keyframes shift to reflect the effect

Hi,

Launch RED, then open the Keyframe Palette” (Windows pulldown menu item) and look at the “Keep Keyframe Time” option. You may need to change this.

A keyframe generated at frame 5 will remain at frame 5 with this feature disabled. If you want to extend the effect over the new timeline then enable the “Keep Keyframe Time” feature and the keyframes will be distributed over the new timeline.

Hi Peter,

The BCC product is a purchase for the RED host just as it is for any other host into which it can be used. You can download the trial version and use it for two weeks free of charge while you evaluate whether or not it works on your system. After the two week period, the software will render with a watermark.
