Hi,
Well I guess we need to start by asking you what level of Media 100 system you have. If you have M100 HS Suite or M100 HDX both or which come with RED, then it is installed during the M100 host installation process. If you have either the M100 SDE or HDE then you would need to purchase RED and run the RED 4.1.5 installer, select the custom host option and manually navigate to the V12 plug-ins folder. We will release the RED 4.1.6 installer to the web site very soon, once we have completed the test process for this updater.
I hope this helps.

Hi Alan,
I think it’s safe to say that a major version update to the RED product line will not take place this year.

Hi Alan,
We do not have a mechanism currently in place that would enable you to flip through the different apply modes without touching the pop-up menu although I’ve used this in other graphics applications and find the feature quite handy in terms of speed and ease of use. I’m sure this would be a popular feature so let’s see what we can do to add such a thing for RED 5.
Thanks for mentioning this.
Cheers,
Peter.

Hi Tony,
My bad … the DE filters are only available with RED and not with FX or Graffiti. And only on Windows.
Sorry about that. You can use any 3rd party AE lightning generator in FX though – just drop the filter that you want to use into the BorisPlugIns folder and if it is supported then it should should up and operate as expected.
Cheers,
Peter.

Hi Matthew,
Without having the file that you are importing in front of my it’s a little difficult to diagnose the problem however here are a couple of things to be aware of when importing EPS or .AI files into FX:

Hi Tony,
If you can please send me the project that you created where you were having trouble generating the fire effect I can take a look at it and try to figure out why it didn’t work for you. You can send me the effect setting at peterm@borisfx.com.
Regarding the other effects that you mention, lightning and arcing electricity, if you are a Windows user you can use the bundled DE Electrical Arcs plug-in. This feature however is not included on the Mac version of the FX9 product.
Cheers,
Peter.

Hi Juan,
If you launch the Boris RED 4 (which is what I’m assuming you are using) and go to the help menu, you will find a lot of helpful tutorials and feature descriptions that will assist you in getting your feet wet with the product. You can also find a lot of tutorials on the web site at http://www.borisfx.com/tutorials/. And there are several training DVD’s out there which will bring you up to speed in short order.
Cheers,
Peter.

Hi Kuhnen,
Under the Preview drop down menu in RED, did you select the “Connect to External Monitor” function?
Thanks,
Peter.
