  • I’m guessing that the footage may be 10 bit yuv? If so, this could be the source of the problem. Being an After Effects Plugin, FieldsKit Deinterlacer can only work in 8 bpc (this is problem with FCP’s implementation of the After Effects plugin architecture and is nothing we can change). You can always send us a 4 or 5 frame sequence (using the original 1080i footage, not the scaled down footage), and an FCP project that shows the problem. You can send that to us at techsupport (at) revisionfx (dot) com.

Also, I would deinterlace the 1080i footage footage first and then scale the 1080p footage to 720p. You will get MUCH better results. Of course the color shift may still show itself, due to the limitation I refer to above.

  • What files are the filenames of the the plugins you have in

    /Library/Application Support/Final Cut Pro System Support/Plugins ?

If they are named “Twixtor 4.5 Plug-in”, “Twixtor Pro 4.5x Plug-in” and “Twixtor Pro 4.x Vectors In” then you have the wrong versions (the ones for PPC). This happens when you choose the installation for FCP on PPC macs.

Nor should the plugins end in .fxplug (those are the FxPlug versions and need to be installed elsewhere)

The names of the plugins you need in that directory are “Twixtor45AE.plugin” “Twixtor45ProAE.plugin” and “Twixtor45ProAE.plugin”.

If that’s what you have, can you select one of the plugins in the Finder, choose the Finder’s menu option “File->Get Info” and let us know what version is reported in the Get Info box?

At the basest level (if you are not using the plugin which uses vectors from a 3D system), the two plugins are the same.

The PRO version adds more features, but is not faster or better at the default settings. You can read about the differences here: https://www.revisionfx.com/products/rsmb/features/#After%20Effects,%20Premiere%20Pro,%20Final%20Cut%20Pro,%20Commotion,%20Combustion,%20and%20Boris%20Red

    Hey there,

FYI, if you wanted to use one of Apple’s programs in the Final Cut Studio suite, then you’d want to use Apple’s Cinema Tools and not Compressor.

And yes, you can also use FieldsKit Pulldown, in pulldown removal mode. This only works in AE because of the frame rate change (our plugins only can properly do frame rate conversion within AE). Make sure your footage is interpreted as 29.97, but DO NOT set it to remove pulldown within AE’s settings, and drop the footage into a 23.976 comp. Then apply FieldsKit pulldown. Set the Field Order in the plugin as appropriate, and set the 3:2 Pulldown setting to “Remove Pulldown (30 to 24)” and set the Pulldown Phase as appropriate (we don’t automatically detect phase).

    Hope this helps,
