    HI AKA
So where are your 16 afs. UK? Are they Spectras or SCs. Are u upgrading any to the new SCX.
Have you been following the debate on AMS Neve Users Forum regarding the direction of the platform?

It really doesnt matter what the reference tone is at, although the relationship between tone and peak audio must be defined.
In the UK the norm is -18 tone = PPM 4. Peak is at ppm6 (ie +8db above ref)
However cameras dont usually have a marking for -18 on their meters so sound recordists will line up to -20 =ppm4 and studios will deliver for TX at -18 ppm4 with audio at ppm6 max.

This way you never go near clipping which is very nasty indeed.

If its so bad just reject the content.
I recently had a tv commercial rejected by a broadcaster in the UK because the audio peaked 1/4 of a db over peak on the left channel only on their meters (which didnt even register as an over on my PPMs)

If its your job to police it for your organisation then make them deliver to the spec you define. If its not your job then leave it alone as its been supplied as a mix, presumably the way they want it to be. A compressor will change the sound so you need to be sure if its in your remit to alter anyone elses work.

Id be livid if a broadcaster (or ANYONE for that matter changed my mix without my knowlege)

    HI Aka
    Youve got 16 Ams Audiofiles??

I currently just use VVTR when using AMS AF, but when PT I use pt own video track.

What file type do you fing works best in PT. I use Motion JPEG Atype on VVTR and is smooth on 9pin control, but a bit shaky in pT.

Are u in the UK or USA or elsewhere.

    Cheers

    HI there
I have a mac using a Decklink pro card and it runs Virtual VTR perfectly. I havent attempted to use vvtr with pro tools (which also does run on the same mac) as pt runs its own video layer just fine.
What are you trying to do.
    Is it not working
    Is it VVTR Pro

My use for VVTR is as a pix pb device (rather than using a digi beta vtr) when the system is slaving along to an AMS Audiofile DAW.

Are you aware of the yahoo group for VVTR???

Hope i / we can help eachother

    OK
In your first line you mention a voice over talent.
If he IS a talent (ie someone who is moderately experienced and does this for a living) then he should have ISDN codec equipment to allow connectivity at high data rates to anywhere in the world. This is how it is done.
Or he should know studios nearby where he goes REGULARLY to do this.

This whole mention od telephones is a joke.

September 16, 2006 at 4:54 pm in reply to: Is Audio recorded on DAT tapes able to contain timecode?

Generally (always in my experience) the timecode information is transferred to the DAW or edit station via the rs422 protocol 9pin remote cable . This controls the dat deck as a vtr and the timecode is a part of this positioning data

HI Sorry I dont know for sure the answer to your post, although as i understand it the mixer is only a surface controller. I think you may well need an mbox, but id have thought youd have go the neccesary hardware to run PT LE.
I think if you go to https://duc.digidesign.com/ and post on the relevant forum, you will have the answer almost immediately.

You should check out itunes. I always thought this was mac only but now believe it runs on pc also now. When you connect to itunes and load a cd, a programme called GRACENOTE can be used to access the track details off the web , and are subsequently automatically added to your archive. Big timesaving trick.

    Try it

Hard drives are so cheap nowadays, and cd and dvd storage almost without cost at all, Id go for .wav or .aif as uncompressed.

Additionally, for the cds, if you use a mac and i tunes, then Gracenote will access the entire track listing data from the web automatically and you can save everything from software as you wish with all the information already naming the files.
    A real time saver.

    Peter

Youre right. MP3s are lossy and with mpeg broadcasting etc now a reality, quite a bad idea that early in the chain.
