This is my main gripe with P2. I’ve gone back to our hotel after a long day’s shoot and literally spent hours in my room backing up, chcking HDD’s then backing up the back-up, while everyone else is down in the bar or out to dinner. On many shoots, there is only a producer, soundo and the camera op. As camera op you have to take responcibilty for the media coming out of your camera.

On a shoot in Indonesia last year, I was shooting 7 to 8 tapes a day. It’s just not possible to do location backups in that sort of situation with limited manpower and/or free time to backup. Plus we don’t have the capital to load up on seven or eight 32gb cards. (which doesn’t solve the backup issue)

Don’t get me wrong, I love the pictures from the P2 cameras and Panasonic cameras in general, but I think of that hotel room every night after the shoot…

I’m getting this message on all projects. The “Stingray” in the string refers to two beta versions ago so I assume this is buggy code that has not been fixed. VERY VERY frustrating. It means you cannot trim a 200gig project to say, 5gig. You have to backup or recature the whole project.

Hi Tim,

Interested to see you bought the 3000. I’m also interested in the camera. I already have many of the bits that aren’t included in the basic head price (VF, Panny Mic, Sennheiser slot-in, etc) so I’m seriously considering the camera to replace my SDX900. How do you find it compared to your Varicam? Does the lack of native slo-mo on the 3000 concern you? The lack of VFR is one of my pre-purchase concerns.

I went el cheapo and ordered a pair of Behringer MS40’s. I’ll give them a go to get me through Christmas. The Rolands look very nice, but a bit pricey. Thankyou everyone for the advice. Another example of the Cow’s value and friendliness.

We do pretty high-end stuff with (cough) Premiere and Decklink HD. If Avid could port to Decklink it could be a deal-maker for me. (and ditto for dropping those prices…)

Thanks Max, I’ll redo it at 29.97. Because my original is 25fps, I may have a problem there. I may have to see if I can find a Tivo-style kiosk media player that can loop HD through HDMI.
