    We have reports from users that pgAdmin works for them however we dont use it ourselves. An alternative is to just export the project using Resolves export function on the config screen. Select the project and right mouse click to then select export. Selecting all options will take longer but allows you to import into a new Resolve or your current one. This export and import features is used daily to move projects to different systems and sometimes to setup remote grading.

    Hi, sounds like you may have a Rocket issue. Till you get it fixed, in Resolve you can set the decode to ‘Good’ and at 1/2 or 1/4 res on the config/source/red tab to get real time playback even without a Red Rocket.

    We understand the requirement however it’s not in this update. It is in the current development plan.

  • We have not tested nor qualified the Geforce 8800. If it’s working for you today that’s great. As Resolve does not force a particular card model, as long as it has the appropriate performance and specs it may be viable. However, we publish the config guide so you know the items that are tested and we recommend these configs over non certified variations.

    Note: the ATI 5770 need one power cable, the GTX285 two… so you cant use both of these in the MacPro as there are only two power sockets.

    In the config with ATI 5770 and Nvidia 4000, the 4000 is in slot 2 as the ATI is a double wide card, thus slot 1.

    Resolve reads standard CMX3600 EDL’s including dissolves and this section of the code has been stable for some years. Are you having an issue adding the clips to the media pool based on the EDL, conflicts with clips because they have the same timecode, or the conform itself because the dissolves are not appearing as you expect?

    Hello, Joseph is correct that the current config guide specifies only Nvidia GPU’s, however, I have just posted a link to the 7.0.3 update and one of the cool items included is support for the ATI Radeon 5770 as the GUI card. You will still need a CUDA capable card for image processing but this means purchases of the new 2010 MacPro with the 5770 can use this card with the Nvidia 4000.
    In your particular case, while the GT120 will not give you the performance of a Quadro 4000 for image processing it will work for reviewing of the application. The config guide is being updated and will be posted shortly.

    Hi, I wont comment on the details of Color or other applications, just Resolve. As you say, if the client wants to take files away, a render is required. If he wants to take a tape away, you can play to tape in real time, thus; both take some time. Often the render is faster than real time but this usually depends on the hardware and certainly on the amount of grading and resizing you perform.

    In the workflow you describe, if the file format of the portable source disk is can be played in real time via the portable source disk I/O, and example would be r3d material from a Firewire drive into a MacPro, you do not need to copy those files into another disk to grade. In the Resolve preferences just add that portable drive to the drive pool. Clips from this drive can play on the timeline, you can grade and then render back to this drive. Again, if the drive I/O is sufficient this render can be faster than real time.

    We have customers using the Resolve on Linux with 4GPU and rendering SD DPX files at +100fps. I know at BMD post here in Singapore we often render HD images at +40fps.

    I think the reference many Resolve users make about rendering relates to rendering during the grading process. Resolve can play the source clips and apply the grade parameters and display the images on the HD-SDI monitor without the need for rendering, or render cache, or background render. Many if not most other applications that grade HD resolution RGB data per pixel do need to render cache prior to real time playback just to see the grade. Make a change and you need to render cache again.

    Of course, all this still depends on the image resolution, format, bit depth, storage I/O bandwidth, number of GPU’s etc etc but in most cases, Resolve offer full bandwidth real time playback to the HD-SDI monitor without a render.

    DaVinci Resolve uses GPUs for image processing so extra CPU cores makes no difference there, however, the CPU’s are used for the decompression/compression processes. So, if you use ProRes or RED or DNxHD or other none RGB/pixel file types the CPUs are converting these files from their compressed format to RGB/pixel for the GPU to process.

    Dual Quad core works fine, dual six core better if you have $$ and deal with a lot of r3d’s.
