July 14, 2012 at 1:27 am in reply to: R3D Files and Transitions (slow playback w/rocket)If you have the Rocket installed all the decompression and debayer is via that Rocket. You could remove it and try 1/4 res good to see if you can get two streams during grading, set this back to 1/2 good for render.

The feature you are looking for is in the coming v9.

July 12, 2012 at 6:58 am in reply to: R3D Files and Transitions (slow playback w/rocket)Hi, just to verify, you have two streams of r3d files and one Red Rocket to decode them and provide the images to the GPUs for applying the dissolve. If this is the case, the one Rocket is the bottleneck.. its designed for one stream.
If you have a r3d file being dissolved with another file type it won’t be the Rocket as the bottleneck. Then it may be GPU or disk speed, but hard to guess at this stage.Peter

July 5, 2012 at 1:14 am in reply to: Is DaVinci too much stress for my MacBook? Trouble with mutliple nodes.Hi, you don’t detail the model number or year of the MBP so it might be reaching its processing power.
All I can suggest is the following.Close any other apps that are open.
Set the
timeline resolution to 720p
resizing to bilinear
don’t update interface icons during playback.
keep the number and length of clips in the media pool to those you need and no more.Good luck.

Its a lot easier to adjust in Resolve v9. Available end July.

Hi, sounds like you have clips with the same timecode. Or your clips have diff. frame rates. Try flattening the clips to one frame rate or select to use reel number on the settings page.

Can you email the project file to davincihelp@blackmagic-design.com. no need for stills, etc, just the raw project file. Please indicate which shots were not rendered correctly the first time.

Further to Josephs comments, Resolve now does the debayer in GPU for all bayer formats that we support with the exception of RED r3d files which are in CPU.
The decompression of ProRes and other similar formats, and their compression at render, is performed in CPU so if you plan on using ProRes or r3d files, 6 Cores will work but will limit your real time performance.

Hi Paul, please consider following the config guide.
1) Resolve will work with one Quadro 4000, but its not recommended. The Q4000 is a good UI GPU but you want to use separate image processing GPUs to get real time. You mention 3D and if you are referring to Stereoscopic 3D then the image processing GPU needs to be decent… consider the GTX580, or two of them.
2) If you plan to use the Dreamcolor, I guess you are referring to it as the grading monitor. As the config guide shows, the grading monitor is feed from a video card and there are options listed. The UI GPU is for the UI monitor and while this can also be a Dreamcolor most users have something less expensive for the UI.
3) Resolve is designed to separate the UI and image processing to maximize the benefits in both. While they can share the same GPU, as they do in a iMac and MacbookPro etc, thats not the ideal config. The Quadro is required for the UI GPU but you can use Quadro or GTX for the image processing.Peter
