I’ve suspected that the 08 MacPro might be the culprit here. I tested some ProRes422HQ files and was able to get 24fps with 8 nodes of blurs, windows, tracking, etc., but ProRes4444 rarely hits up to 20fps with no nodes.

Removed Cubix from the system, put Q4000 back in slot two of the MacPro, fps performance is unchanged. Tried various combinations of card placement with and without the Cubix and the system performs the same with the ProRes4444 media. If QuickTime player will play a clip at 24fps, would you assume that the same clip would play in Resolve at 24fps with no nodes?

My first effort was to pull the ATTO card, thinking it may be weighing down the GPUs but that didn’t make a difference. According to the config. guide, multiple Q4000 cards are supported in the Cubix. I’ll pull the Q4000 to see if I gain any performance.

I opened a different project with ProRes422HQ media and I get 24fps with multiple nodes there, so now I’m wondering if the ProRes4444 media is problematic for my 2008 MacPro. Although they play perfect in QuickTime player so I’m not sure why Resolve is having a hard time pushing them through.

For some reason (macvidcards can tell us), the AGPM.kext file throttles down the Mac-flashed GTX480 and its removal is recommended for optimum performance.

    Hi Dave,
The GTX480 is keeping me warm this winter. Thank you.

Running Cuda-Z, what am I looking for?
There’s a lot of info there. Not sure what to look for to determine throughput.

I have been using the 8bit setting. Should have mentioned that in my first post. Thanks for the trouble shooting suggestions.

    Thank you gentlemen.
So are you guys saying that I should forget the 12core and Red Rocket, and concentrate on GPUs for Red debayering? I was under the impression that the GPUs don’t assist with debayering Red raw files.

Apple is and has always been a consumer product company. It amazes me that anyone would build a professional motion picture facility based on Apple hardware or software. Example: a few years ago a local facility removed its high end linear and nonlinear editing suites and replaced them with Final Cut systems. Not only have their editors wasted years with half baked software, they are having to consider a whole sale change of systems and learn new tools.

Final Cut My Throat X is consumer software as are all previous versions. The only reason FCP outsold Avid was due to cost of entry and in the professional world price is generally not the primary driving factor behind system purchase decisions. So all I can say to those of you who only have experience with FCP, sorry about that pal. And look at you now. Considering other consumer products like PPro? Unbelievable!

With that said, for the basic task of editing, it really doesn’t matter what software/hardware you use, but investing your time and money in consumer products will not give you a long term return on your knowledge and skill set investment.

Simple rule to follow: If the product has the word “pro” in the name, it probably isn’t.

Facial Recognition anyone? HA! You gotta be kidding me!

    Rasmus,

With all due respect, it appears that you posted a comment about a year ago on a COW forum that states you are new to “this editing thing”. Your apparent low level knowledge of this industry may be a factor in your opinion of Resolve. As advised above, please do some research and spend a little more than a weekend evaluating these professional tools before posting.

I use a HP Dreamcolor but there are a few choices of very nice grading monitors on the market.
Check out Flanders Scientific, Ikegami, Sony, and Panasonic.
