I think I have been choosing too high Bitrate (32!).
So, what should I expect about HDV size vs H.264 size? 2-3:1?

Depends on what version of Premiere you have, some Asian text may not show correctly. You have to tricks it around, sometime.

If so, that is normal with Premiere, try using HDVSplit (FREE).

I solved #2 (I guess when you save a new project, it asked for a directory – not very intuitive as in most windows system). Not #1 yet.

Steve, thanks. It looks like there are less effects in CS3 than 2.0! Well, can we preserve the previous effects by copying them over to the Plug-in\En_US (or something like that) folder, right?

Steve, I posted another question on OnLocation forum here at the cows, but, I am very frustruated to get Onlocation to work properly! Mainly 2 problems, and no one seem to help, here or at Adobe (I sent them an email as well).
1. I was not able to preview in Field monitor (DV or HDV), possibly due to my VGA driver? I am not sure.
2. I am not able to specify save directory, it defaulted to mydocument directory! Which usually is on C: and it has limited space. Is there a way to change that?

Depends on what you are looking for…
If you are looking for any HDV improvements, the answer will be NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!! (There is practically “0” improvement)
If you are seeking after bug fixes…….. the answer will depends on what’s important to you, but I wouldn’t pay for $299 for bug fixes. (e.g. new feature: clip replacement – ability to replace a clip out with another with preserving all effects)
If you are going for additional softwares; OnLocation (onsite recording), Encore (DVD authoring) and such, then yes, because by themselves, it is pretty cool to have.
There are only 1 other key improvement in CS3 over 2.0, TimeRemapping. I found it pretty cool as well.

OK, I invited a friend, more technical than I, to looked at the rendered footages; including one that I captured from HV20 (.m2t) and then “encode and record” (all HDV must be re-encoded in CS3) back to tape, re-captured to the computer, pulled into the timeline and compared to the original source, there are some significant quality degradations, especially where there are movements (along the edges) and when contrast of Foreground and Background is strong and perhaps is poor lighting situations (i.e. poor source to begin with).
P.S.: CS3 did fix some minor bugs that we tested, but no significant HDV capability change though. Including, no ability to preview while capturing HD (The preview windows is blank)! I still have to use HDVSplit.

I think I have changed my mind a little, I will do a little more tests and get back with you folks later…
From what the little tests I have done so far, I might be mistaken, but the quality of the final rendered product, .m2v, mp4 (h.264) and even DVD formats are better than I have expected or seen in 2.0. (Silly me, I uninstalled both 1.5 & 2.0 off my computer now, I can’t compare them!!)Would someone please clarify to see if Adobe is still using MainConcept Encoder? What version? Does PPro 2.0 use the same version of this encoder as CS3? (I just think the quality of the rendered outcome video is better in CS3)

General concenses is not to switch in the middle of a project. Finish them off, and then start a new one on a different built.
