Decent slow motion effects require quite sophisticated frame blending – which you can only get with compositing apps like Boris Red & After Effects. In an editing app like Premiere Pro it’s usually a pretty hit and miss affair…usually miss…depends a lot on the source footage and the percentage of slow down you go for.

I can quote Dave Friend from a post dated July 6th:

“Try this:
First, your program material should NOT exceed -9dB on the PPro meters. This is kind of hard (OK, damn near impossible) to do accurately with PPro because of the crude way Adobe chooses to display audio levels. But if you set levels so that someone speaking with a “normal” voice peaks around -12, and that the loudest peaks don’t go more than halfway to -6 on the PPro meters you will be pretty close.
Second, set the tone to -20dB on the PPro meters. Adjust the 1800 (Beta) record level to 0VU from this tone.”

PP tone is set for the DVD standard, not for Analog output -if you adjust your tone level in Premiere as above you should be OK – worked for me two weeks ago with a Beta SP I had to submit for broadcast.

While it would seem most likely that your current problem this time is dodgy media, it’s not a very good idea to stick labels on DVD’s – there are loads of inkjet printable blank discs out there and (for example) the fairly low-cost (80 GBP) Epson R300 printer does a nice job.

DVD players run very hot and can eventually, I’m told, melt the adhesive on inferior labels, and if you don’t get the label centered correctly you might also cause a problem in a player.

For anyone interested – problem now sorted – had to go into Adobe plug-ins folder on system drive and manually remove a couple of rogue instances of an IMborisred.prm file and FL6borisred.prm file in the filters folder which kept appearing on every install.

For what it’s worth..I too have had trouble with Premiere failing to update changes to Boris Comps applied to clips, amongst other things..see post above.. also experienced the screen garbage you mention which is not very confidence inspiring.
