    Thanks for the response but
    Nope. Tried it.
    Still very choppy scrub.
I also tried turning on and off the HG scrub setting and that changes nothing as well

    Thanks for the help.
I tried the render to prores and the timeline plays fine. (so far)
    So for future-
I should capture through FCP log and transfer as EXCAM and then create a prores sequence and cut in that sequence? when FCP prompts me to keep everything the same I select “no”.

Does it make sense to capture as pro res? Can I do that through log and transfer?

Trying to learn the correct work flow.

No- I used the Black magic test- since that’s my capture card.
And after more research I realize those numbers are bad.
But i went ahead and downloaded the AJA system test and ran it.
    This is what I got:

    128.0 MB

    write 181.7 MB/s
    read: 199.5 MB/s

I did not do anything to configure the slot other than install the controller and plug in the esata cable.
I rebooted and the array was on my desktop.

    Thanks-

    I ran the test:

DISK READ DATA RATE in MB/s 196.5

    8 bit 4:2:2
    HDTV 1080 fps
    Disk Read 49
    Disk Write 45

    Do those numbers look correct?

I installed in the top slot as instructed.
I also called G-Tech and they told me with the G-tech controller it’s a simple plug and play- no drivers needed.

    Thanks.
Is there a way to mark a universal keyframe?
The way I am getting effects to work is by keyframing each parameter on the first frame.
(They seem to key themselves after the first one)

Am I missing something- or does Boris just work so much easier in Avid?

I called Black Magic Today and they reassured me to go ahead and install the Extreme HD card. It should work fine with my 4.5 gigs. True?
I haven’t opened the Extreme box yet- and I am worried about this.
Should I return it and get the Kona 3?

Just tried suggestion – CBR 6rate.
    Same problem.
    Thanks for all the help.
I’m back to burning on a stand alone deck via composite. Motion is smooth and (while not great) the image looks less compressed. The only reason to use Encore was to create a cool menu page.
At the end of the day- I’d rather have a decent looking program- than slick opening graphics.

There must be an answear to this.
I am actually editing in a time 23. timeline- -but the way I understand it- Encore transcodes everything to 29.97 because that’s the standard for dvd.
It looks like it’s dropping frames- so I figured it must be a “24p” thing.
I tried selecting “progressive” in the pre transcode settings. That did nothing.
The QT’s play down fine on the desktop – so I’m sure it’s a transcode issue. But like I said- I tried them all (wasted a full days work) and I get the stutter/jitter everytime.
I’m thinking of taking the project over to FCP.

    Thanks for the reply.

I transcoded to the highest allowable setting which I believe was 7mb(?)

    I still have the problem.

July 12, 2005 at 12:35 pm in reply to: Hook up External Drive and deck to laptop

O.k. thanks. So my connections are correct. Drive to the 800fw port and Deck to the Card.
Now as you can tell- I’m new to FCP and laptop editing.
I have used a PC desktop Avid for the last few years. And still do. I just want to learn FCP for on the road edit jobs and an external monitor is not an option.
I must say I’m shocked that this “tearing” is considered normal.
Walter- you say it has to do with interlaced footage on a progressive screen- but my footage IS 24Pa from a Panasonic DVX.
But it was also shot with the anamorphic lens.
I did not see an option for 24Pa Anamorphic. There only seems to be the option for one or the other.
I find it hard to believe FCP users have been editing with this Tearing as normal.
    Thanks.
