yeah I guess maybe I wasn’t that clear either. the 1400 has both sdi and firewire out.
what I want to know is:
can the deck downconvert a dvcpro hd tape (probably 23.98) to standard def (29.97) out of the sdi to a digibeta AND firewire out to a dvcam deck SIMULTANEOUSLY?

this is because the two downconverted formats must have matching timecode and time/budget restraints will not allow for the dvcam tapes be made from the digibetas SEPARATELY after the fact.
Also it would be necessary for the dvcam to have a visible burn in of both the original hd timecode (23.98) AND the new sd timecode (29.97).
This is of course to be able to offline from the dvcam tapes and finish sd with the digibetas, then also be able to go back to the original dvcpro hd and finish in hd later if required.

    hey Kristian
have had the same problem on and off for years with different BMD products and FCP to digibetas in different facilities. always intermittent and never resolved.
As of now (decklink extreme/G5 dual/all latest software/10bit projects) the insert alternates between 2 frames early and spot on. so we have to insert twice and then go back and clean up the early insert – a real pain! digibeta A500 is set to sync to input.
You asked Jon to email support – anyway you can post the reply/fix/workaround?
    thanks
    Paul

can this deck simultaneously down convert to SD out of the SDI and firewire?
need to downconvert to digibeta and dvcam at the same time with matching timecode for offline/conform.

    thanks guys
can you use a regular rca cable to extend the spdf cable to the edit desk, or do you need digital rated cable?

  • it will likely pass signal but NOT RECOMMENDED!
you need to get SDI rated cables.

this may be a stupid suggestion, but did you check the decklink control panel in system preferences to make sure output is set to composite out ntsc instead of yrb (yuv?)
that’s usually the the cause of b&w after an upgrade – it resets to yuv

why not export out self contained QT movies of your work and having it layed to digibeta at another facility? that way you don’t have to spend $$$ on a deck (how many layoffs would you have to pay for until it made up the thousands you will spend on a deck?)
betaSP kind of sucks compared to digibeta…

  • we used to have one of these
I think you just hook it up with a standard rs422 cable

  • yeah – let him have it Bob!
    but no crack pipe references?
