what i actually am trying to do is for the shape (button) to be completely invisible until is selected not just the highlight colour. is this possible by using the standard apple shapes or is this a feature of layered buttons etc…

I’m all for reading the manual and doing all your own research before asking questions and as such i have been pouring over the manual of an app that i have only ever previously used for client viewing etc (never for a fully fledged DVD release)…..and trawling the net….the suggested solution just isnt working, it’s the one i tried first when i read it in the manual, i’ve tried various incarnations and on my machine it just doesnt want to do what it’s supposed to do.
when i pull the opacity down to zero the colour disappears but the actual button stays visible….

we have a couple of lacie drives and we havnt had any issues with them…yet. just from the buzz on the boards the porche ones especially sound like accidents waiting to happen!!
I’ll remember the lacies if i want to cook up some eggs – nice tip 🙂

thanks graeme,
what would you suggest for target and maximum bit rate? all up there is about 50 mins of video split over 3 tracks + menus. are all the VBR settings broken or just the two pass VBR?

so here’s the update if anyones interested
the new encode plays smoothly now in NTSC…but there are several “encoding errors’ with some heavy artifacts.
in general what is the hit rate of artifacts in mpeg conversion or is it possible to get perfectly clean files? I used compression markers for fast movement etc…
target 6.5 and max 8.0 and all the best settings in frames and resizing etc…

hey graeme,
the ntsc looks fine…easy setup 10bit NTSC and viewing via my sony PVM 20L4 monitor, it’s switchable PAL/NTSC. the source video is 10bit NTSC (transcoded from 10bit PAL) by the way and not DV
im just burning a disc now so I’ll now soon enough if the field dominance is the issue.
thanks 🙂

hey guys
yes i thought about doing the test but i think it was the dominance issue so i just selected lower instead of auto….the problem with testing in DVDSP is that it looked fine…it wasnt until i got the movie on dvd and played it on a domestic dvd player and tv that i saw the field issue.
i read in the manual that DVDSP can preview out to a monitor….when i look in the options though it only gave me the choice of the viewer window or the cinema display.
how do you get it to play the output to my sony monitor?
thanks

thanks walter…super speed!!!
in this particular case as the final output is for NTSC dvd should i set the field dominance to none?
the mpeg file i have already encoded plays fine on the computer monitor but stutters when played back on my broadcast monitor….i assume that’s because of the fields of the monitor and lack of fields on the apple display.
anyway back to the original question….should i set dominance to lower or none?
thanks
