    thanks David

forgot about the in menu help!!! hidden away in that cryptically labelled drop down menu called “help” …..so obvious i missed it 🙂

for anyone interested on getting thumbnails while in list view, you control click on the colums while in list view and select ‘show thumnail’. the scrubbing feature is really nice, gives you a visual preview of the clip…i’ve found it very handy…i think i remember reading it’s a new feature of 5.1.2 but for all i know its been there since version 1!!!

    thanks again

if you do a search plenty of threads should come up on this topic both on this forum and the AJA and FCP forums. As for Bob, guess he just didn’t get his morning coffee yet 🙂

for this kind of control try placing an oval shape from the generators menu on V2 over your clip. then apply the “muliply” composite mode and then key frame the size and softness sliders in the oval controls tab to creat the animation you are after.

nice touch having the ring on the gun cylinder! did you do the graphic sequence at the end or was that done by a mograph guy?

    aint that the truth walter!!!

digitizing becomes such a drag with HDV – totally unresponsive….i wasnt really sold on the format to begin with and now my short foray into the world of HDV has confirmed that this is not a great post solution…unfortunately for many budgets it seems its the only option.

    thanks for the info,

when you go the ingest via HD capture card route….do you still experience the weirdness of scrubbing through HDV footage as in the lag in picture and audio and is it possible to monitor the picture and audio on capture using this workflow ie rather than on the camera LCD and headphones?

December 8, 2006 at 11:32 pm in reply to: 25p/720p supported in 5.1.2?

    thanks for the info andy,

i was a bit confused as the FCP press release only spoke about 720p25 sources coming from P2 devices.

Using the JVC camera is a last minute replacement as our other camera got stolen….I’m liking the feel of the JVC though and might get it as a replacement for our Z1.

    thanks again andy

December 6, 2006 at 11:41 pm in reply to: the truth about XDCAM

so after a bit more online research it seems from an asthetic point of view the XDCAM HD cameras take some pretty nice images and the 35mbs recording explains some of the ‘pop’ behind the pixels.

the questions i still have unanswered have to do with XDCAM in post production.

In several Apple demos, I heard none other than Paul Saconne (FCP product manager), talk about the extra pull that HDV has on the processors as it is a very computational heavy codec resulting in longer render times and final conform.

If XDCAM HD is HDV’s older more attractive brother, what magic are Sony doing under the hood to make this a different experience from cutting with HDV apart from the random access and tapeless aspects of the workflow?

    thanks for your thoughts
