My latest show is finally done and shipped off to the network. BLOOD DIAMONDS will air on The History Channel Dec 30, 2006 at 6:00 PM Eastern. It is about the conflict diamond trade in West Africa…to coincide with the Leonardo DiCaprio flick already in theatres. I co-edited this with Dan Wolfmeyer.

Here is the show tease for anyone who is interested:

    hey shane,

nice touch having the ring on the gun cylinder! did you do the graphic sequence at the end or was that done by a mograph guy?

Also how was the show shot and on what format (varicam perhaps)? nice DOF on the IV’s.

Very nice. And yes, the diamond ring on the barrel of the rifle is indeed a very powerful symbol.

The picture is from a series of photos artistically depicting the conflicting images. We purchased the rights to us it in the show.

And a very talented motion graphics guy did the diamond effect at the end. He used After Effects.

OH, and yes, this show is an HD show. We shot DVCPRO HD, but easily over 65% of the show is standard definition stock footage, from VHS, DV and BetaSP sources. And whle we did use my upconvert droplets on a few of the shots (about 30), most of the upconverting of stock footage was done with a Terranex box at a post facility. If we had a Kona 3, we might have done it ourselves, but we had a PCI-X machine, and really preferred the Terranex as it could clean up the footage a bit better than the Kona.

I liked the displacement effects at the end. Difficult to do with class.
Congratulations and I hope you got paid very well.
