See King Kong? All of the roto was done with it.

Weta Digital actually started out with gFx (remember, that technology that Adobe licensed last year?) but then switched to Silhouette exclusively while it was still in alpha.

The most recent Harry Potter film was also finished with it.

Right – gFX was the standalone roto/paint system that Adobe licensed the technology to. But Adobe never made any claims that it would be integrated with AE.

But, you can already get similar (and in many ways better) technology integrated into AE NOW with our Silhouette plugin for AE.

He can do what he wants with Silhouette, which lets you track and stabilize independent layers of shapes. This helps avoid excessive mask keyframes a lot as well.

Thanks Barend. We are committed to creating the best roto and paint (both integrated and standalone) available, so you can’t go wrong.

Hmmm, ok. You’re certainly entitled to believe whatever you want. Call it “common sense”, “intuition”, a “gut feeling”, or “because I want it to be true”. But those things don’t necessarily make it so.

But my original argument – basing purchasing decisions on vapor not being terribly good business decisions – still holds.

Take a look at Silhouette (https://www.silhouettefx.com). Not only is it becoming the de-facto roto tool, you can use it right inside AE, and it will even exchange shape data with AE, Shake, Flame, etc.

Nowhere in that release does it say that any gFx technology will go into Adobe After Effects. It says something vague about “future Adobe software”. But that does not necessarily mean AE. Nothing at all is mentioned about AE 7 either.

So again, I wonder why people get the impression this stuff is going into AE 7?

I’m curious where you heard Adobe will be integrating any gFx technology into AE. I haven’t heard ANY announcement to that effect.

It’s usually not a good idea to wait for unannounced product features.

The newly-released Silhouette Paint option for Silhouttte will let you paint on frames – and the FCP plugin version will let you do it right inside FCP.
