That is pretty slick. At first, I couldn’t figure out what I was watching for on that movie because I don’t know what P2 Flow is. But then watching it all the way through, I was pretty amazed.

I have a 2 x 2.66 Dual Core machine. But I’ll probably get a Matrox MXO2 Mini with MAX on it so I don’t need this Elgato thingy.

I’m almost tempted to buy this thing though just to carry it around from job to job and impress the client!

    Jeremy,

I had heard from a friend that had the Elgato that oddly, the better the machine, the less impact it has. Interesting to hear your comment. That’s good to know. I wonder where the break-even point is. Time for me to do some research!

If you’re doing a lot of h.264 encoding, then you could also consider something like the Elgato Turbo encoder or a Matrox CompressHD card.

    https://www.elgato.com/elgato/int/mainmenu/products/Accessories/Turbo264HD/product1.en.html

    https://www.matrox.com/video/en/products/mac/compresshd/

I don’t have either of these but I’ve been doing a lot of research in the past week that includes this type of functionality. You can find a bunch of reviews on both and they seem to be highly regarded.

Thanks for all the help. Much appreciated (even as I was being called dumb and stupid). I can go back to the powers that be and tell them no such thing exists.

I edited my original post so some of it became unclear. I’m basically re-evaluating my rate after a few years of the same rate.

But your point is well-taken. Thanks for the reply.

I just spoke to BM. I asked them the specific question regarding the RT Effects info on their site. The guy knew exactly what I was getting at and almost didn’t let me finish. It’s all marketing speak. It does nothing to enhance RT Effects – it’s just an I/O card.

Thanks for the feedback. When BM opens later today, I’m going to give them a buzz. I’ll post back on what I hear.

Thanks for the follow up. I’m going to contact Promise tomorrow and hopefully pull the trigger on one of these soon.

    Oliver,

Thanks for the info. That’s helpful. The reason I’m interested is that 1) I’ve got a backup system in place with the Raid and 2) I’ve got a lot of storage in one place. I’m used to using FW800 drives so something faster than that is good.

If you don’t mind, can I ask you:

    1) What kind of drives are you using?
    2) What esata card are you using?
    3) Are you running Snow Leopard? I know there are some cards that don’t work with SL.

    Thanks for your help.

    Paul
